Her eyes studied me for a minute, and I sensed that she was hesitant to answer my question. “Yeah, unfortunately it happens. Rival clubs want to take out other MCs so they can claim their territory.” She looked around nervously. “We probably should stop talking about this.”
I looked out at the water, considering what little she’d revealed, and made a mental note to do some research when I got the chance. It seemed that being in a motorcycle club was dangerous, even if you were considered the good guys.
“So what do prospects do?” The water was surprisingly cool but felt good on my bottom and the backs of my legs.
“Everything!” Val laughed. “They get the crappy jobs that come up, like washing the bikes, cleaning the clubhouse. They run errands. Whatever the members need they do it. After a year or so they’re patched in. Brew was patched in early because he had club experience.” She began to splash her hands in the water.
“Boo!”
We both let out a shriek and craned our necks to see who’d come up behind us.
“Damnit, El!”
Ella giggled, unaffected by Val’s angry outburst. Ella continued into the water with Wolfe right behind her. Once they were deep enough, they turned toward each other and kissed. Smiling, I let my gaze move over everyone, stopping on a couple who’d moved off by themselves. The cover of water didn’t disguise what they were doing, and I quickly averted my eyes.
“Looks like Tank is getting him some.” I met Val’s eyes. “He and Jezzie are, um, making waves.”
We both chuckled. I’d never had sex in public. I wondered if they were using protection, but I didn’t question it. I figured they had it covered in some way. Val and I sat quietly for a few minutes before I chanced a backward glance at Eagle. He was looking directly at me, and not in a friendly way. His expression seemed carved in stone, but in spite of that, he looked handsome. I smiled and waved, not receiving a response, and then turned back around. I shouldn’t have been surprised. He was the type of man who gave a woman attention when he wanted to screw her but had no time for her once he was done.
“Asshole,” I murmured under my breath.
“Who?”
I gave Val the side eye. “You weren’t supposed to hear that.” I tried not to smile.
“You’re not talking about Eagle, are you?” Her tone suggested that she already knew the answer. “All of them can be assholes when they want. Even Bear. You just have to call them out on it.”
“Eagle isn’t my man,” I pointed out. “Nor do I want him to be. He’s too rough around the edges. He’s bossy, intimidating, and he just walks into my brother’s house as if he owns it.” I sounded petty, but I couldn’t come up with anything better at the moment. The truth was that everything about Eagle irritated me and turned me on at the same time.
“So you don’t like bad boys? I had never even contemplated being with a man like Bear until I first laid eyes on him, and then all of a sudden he was my type. And if you ask Ella, she’d say the same thing about Wolfe.” She turned in her lounger and our eyes locked. “Eagle is available, just in case you’re interested.”
I smirked and resisted looking back at him again. “So he mentioned.”
Her eyebrows shot up with surprise. “He told you he was available?”
“Not in those words. Just that he and Jillian weren’t together.”
“They never were together. Eagle never made a move on Jillian, even though you could tell that he was interested in her.”
Never made a move on her? The kiss that I’d witnessed suggested otherwise, but I didn’t bring it up. “Maybe he was waiting for her to make the first move.”
“Or maybe he wasn’t as into her as he thought he was.”
I had to agree with Val. Eagle didn’t strike me as the kind of man who held back when he wanted something. He certainly hadn’t held back when he wanted to have sex with me. Of course, I couldn’t complain. I’d wanted to have sex with him just as badly. For some reason I was weak when it came to him. All he had to do was touch me, and I surrendered embarrassingly quickly. Like a slut.
“Hey, baby.”
Bear had arrived. He put his hands on Val’s shoulders and pulled her back for his kiss. She reached up and looped her arms around his neck, and the next thing I knew his hands had dropped down onto her breasts. My cheeks grew warm when he fondled them, causing Val to moan loudly.
“Missed you,” he growled when they broke apart. And then he looked over at me and grinned. “Hey, Leona.”
“Hi, Bear.” I vacated the chair I was sitting in. “I’m going for a drink. You can have my chair.”
Val’s voice followed me. “There are drinks in the coolers under the tree next to the grills.”
That meant that I’d have to go near Eagle. I spied the coolers and then made the mistake of looking at him. His eyes were on me, narrowed and dark as they roamed up and down my body. Was he disappointed that I wasn’t wearing a bikini like the rest of the women? Heat immediately pooled between my legs. Damn him! His smirk told me that he knew what he was doing to me.
