Yeah, Jillian. So I’d heard.

It took a moment for Val’s words to hit me. Of course Eagle slept with Ginger. Wasn’t that what she was here for?

“Is there a manual or something I can look at to learn about motorcycle clubs?” I was only half-joking.

“Not that I’m aware of, but that’s a great idea,” Ella agreed. “There are similarities between MCs, but there are differences, too. They basically make up their own rules. Anything you want to know, just ask me or Val. We’ve had to learn as we go, and it’s not always pleasant.”

“Yeah, I’m getting that.”

She laughed. “Don’t let your first impression of the club sour you.”

“Mornin’, ladies.”

I’d seen Mac enter the clubhouse a minute ago with two large Pitbulls following him, one white, the other a golden brown. They broke away from him once they were inside. Again, I noticed how handsome Mac was. In fact, all the members I’d seen so far were handsome in their own right and quite different from each other, with the exception of their bad ass and eye-catching biker attire.

The three of us murmured a greeting. “Who are your friends?”

“That’s Sugar and Blue.” He sat down in the chair Bear had vacated.

“You saved them,” I commented.

He grinned. “How did you know?”

“It’s obvious,” Ella responded before I could. “And we’re women. We’re smart.”

I backed her up. “She’s right. And I can tell by looking at them that they’ve been in fights.” I could see the scars on their coats and faces, but otherwise they looked healthy, and judging from the way they were greeting some of the others, they were happy. “You rescued them from fighting?”

Mac nodded. “That’s what we do, Leona. Our club shuts down illegal dog fighting. Most of us have rescues. And Lola—you met her last night—runs a rehabilitation center for dogs.”

“I have a little pitty named Daisy,” Ella said. “Wolf has a monster dog named Demo. Don’t be afraid if you ever get to meet him, though. He’s a sweetheart.”

I doubted that meeting him would ever come to fruition. “I love dogs.” I was beginning to wonder what Eagle could be doing in the kitchen for so long, especially since I’d noticed that Ginger hadn’t come back out.

“We’ll take you out to her place sometime.” I responded to Val with a smile. “Bear and I have four dogs.” She laughed. “Cookie, Georgia, Buster, and Lady. Good thing we live in the country and have a lot of room.”

There was no need for her to say that they were animal lovers—that was obvious.

“Listen, I came by when I heard you were here. Want to talk to you about that job opening we have at the garage.”

I’d forgotten all about it!

“Are you interested?”

I was definitely interested. It would save me from having to look for a job. With the lottery money that I’d won I didn’t need to work, but staying home and doing nothing wasn’t an option for me. And, if I were honest, I didn’t want Ron to know about the money. If he had an emergency and truly needed it, I wouldn’t hesitate to give it to him.

“Do you offer insurance?” That would make the offer even better.

Amusement gleamed in Mac’s eyes. “We do now.”

Everyone at the table laughed.

“Then yes, I’m interested. When do I start?” Out of the corner of my eye I saw Ginger come out of the kitchen.

“How about tomorrow?”

I hadn’t expected it to be so soon, and I paused from accepting immediately. I had to think about Ron and what his condition could be. Would he need me?

Eagle chose that moment to come out of the kitchen, and he headed our way.
