When I look up, Rhys is eating a chocolate chip cookie.

“Where’d you get that cookie?” I ask.

“Maggie’s lobby. They were complimentary. You want a bite?”

“No thanks.” Sugar-laden baked goods aren’t a part of my diet.

“More for me then.” With one more bite, he devours it. “Where to now?”

Now that Maggie is home safe and the adrenaline has worn off, I’m exhausted.

“To bed.” I yawn around the words.

“Is that an invitation?” Rhys wiggles his brows.

“You’re relentless.”

“It’s in my nature.”

This time when we get in the car, I get my own seat. My body shivers against the cool leather and Rhys pulls off his suit jacket to drape it over my arms.

“Thanks.”

I give Wanda my address and a few minutes later, we’re pulling up to my apartment building.

“Tonight was fun,” Rhys says, a playful smile on his face.

I laugh. “Yeah, it was.” I take off his jacket and hand it back to him. “Let’s do it again in another ten years.”

He nods. “Sure.”

“Okay, well, goodnight.”

I watch his tall, muscular frame jog down the stairs, then dip back inside the car. I expect him to drive away but instead, he rolls down the window.

“I can’t leave until you go inside.”

It’s a thoughtful gesture, but it makes me flustered because now he knows I was watching him leave.

I give a quick wave before pushing through my apartment building door.

“Goodnight, Princess,” I hear Rhys call as the glass-paneled door shuts behind me.

CHAPTER 6

Rhys

“Are you decent?” Ramsey calls from the other side of the door.

I stretch my arms overhead, letting out a guttural groan as my muscles contract, then relax.

“You know I’m alone,” I call.

If I’m home, I’m alone. I never have a woman in my bed.

“That wasn’t the question.” His voice is muffled next to the door frame. “It was are you decent?”

I lift the covers to find I’m in boxer-briefs.
