Daisy moved that way until Erica hooked an arm around her waist. “No one goes alone,” Erica said.
Daisy nodded and looked to Freya.
“What’s going on?” Gwen asked.
Freya heard nothing else as she was up, off her sunlounger, and then running across the terrace to the side steps in bare feet. Then she ran full pelt across Edward Hall lawns to the cottages.
Chapter Forty-Six
Luke
Luke came out of his cottage and onto the dried out and cracked path, then walked a few steps into the grass to see Freya springing towards him. He picked up his pace, glancing behind him to see Archer, Jason, Nate and his mother come out of their cottages and onto the grass. They were all holding their phones.
Freya was nearing at a hell of a speed and then three feet away, she launched into the air and into his arms. Her arms went around his neck, her legs wrapped around his hips, where Luke put his hands on her arse and shifted her up a few inches. Then she locked her ankles around him.
But it wasn’t the squeeze of her arms and legs that had him dropping to one knee in the grass and then to the other knee until he was sitting back on his calves. Freya’s words spoken softly into his ear had him on his knees.
“I love you,” she said in a rush. “I am not going to let you see her without me. You do not go near that woman unless I am with you. I don’t care if I’m half in my wedding dress tomorrow and she knocks on your door. You call me if I’m not within shouting distance. You understand?”
Luke didn’t answer and buried his face in her neck and then tipped them. Luke went forward, Freya fell onto her back gently onto the grass and then Luke covered her. Freya’s legs dropped to the grass, but she kept her arms semi-loose around his neck. Just loose enough that she found his mouth to kiss him, then he took over.
It had been too long since they’d touched and like always as soon as he pushed his tongue into her mouth his body grew hot and he wanted her naked.
Luke had come to terms with what he aunt had done to him during his childhood and the stunts she’d pulled while they were adults. But he would never forgive his aunt for attempting to kill his mother and driving his dad into an early grave. Since his Aunt Cynthia had left the island in the spring, he rarely thought about it. Now that the alarm had sounded, issued by Bailey to say she was on Copper Island he wanted to run away.
“Can we get married a day early and then disappear, or better yet, get married this minute and get the next helicopter off the island?” Luke asked, brushing his lips against hers.
She smelled of vanilla, coconut oil and her skin was warm from the sun. Despite these comforting sensations, Luke’s body trembled uncontrollably, impossible to conceal from Freya.
Not that he would want to. She settled him like no other.
“My love, if I could make it so, I would, but legally we can only get married tomorrow and I really want to be your wife,” she whispered.
He kissed her again, passionately and tenderly. The grass wasn’t long enough for him to get away with feeling her up but he could get away with kissing her dirty. When he pulled his head up, he gazed into her eyes and let himself drown in her love.
“I love you so much Freya Riley.”
She gave him a smile that went straight to his stomach and warmed him. “Good, because I’m turning into Freya Turner tomorrow and tomorrow night we’re going to make little Turners.”
“Sounds perfect.”
“If you’ve finished, Jason’s made us breakfast,” Heidi said, coming to stand near them basking them in shadow. She had Jason’s shirt back on, but she carried her flip flops. “I think we’ve almost killed Gwen with alcohol poisoning, and she hasn’t even started at the school yet. She needs food to soak it up.”
Luke rolled off Freya and lay in the grass starting up at the clear blue sky.
“If she’s going to hang around us, then she needs to get match fit,” Freya replied.
Luke rose to his feet and then clasped his hands around Freya’s wrists and helped her up.
“Can we stop with the not touching?” Luke asked once Freya was in his arms.
“Yeah. I was miserable,” Freya answered.
“Life’s too short to be miserable. Come on, a feast awaits in our kitchen. Everyone else is already there and so are the kids,” Heidi said.
Luke grasped Freya’s hand tightly, experiencing the most incredible sensation he had felt in almost a week, ever since she had forbidden any physical contact.
“You’re really lifting the stupid rule?” Luke asked.
