“William, where are you?”
“At the stables.”
“You should be on your way back. Your father wants to talk about his apology in person.”
My fingers tightened around my phone.
“Also, don’t forget our dinner plans tonight. We don’t have room for your plus one.”
I had hoped to bow out of the dinner early and spend the rest of the evening talking with Brooke on the phone. For my mother to mention the plus one meant she had eyes here. I glanced around, wondering who had given her the information that I was here with a woman, and made a mental note to have Gary track the culprit down. “I am aware.”
“Good. I’ll see you in thirty minutes.”
“I’ll see you in an hour.” Before she could protest, I hung up.
Brooke was here, but I wasn’t going to be able to spend time with her today.
She turned toward me as I walked to her, and I had to consciously not admire the way that red blouse hugged her in all the right places. “What is it?” she asked.
Better to just say it. “I’m afraid I’m booked for the rest of the day.”
Brooke nodded. “Patrick warned me that this would likely be my only chance to see you today.”
So many women would complain, but not Brooke. I drew her fingers to my lips and started kissing them one by one.
“What’s this for?” An amused grin tugged at her lips.
“You are amazing,” I said between kisses. My mind went through my packed schedule, looking for the smallest break, but nothing could budge until the next day. “Are you busy tomorrow morning?”
She stepped close and put her arm around my back. “Nope.” She looked up at me, and I knew exactly what she wanted.
I glanced at the nearest empty stall, and I led her toward it. “Would you meet me for breakfast?”
“Where are we going?” she asked.
“My favorite place.”
Brooke raised an eyebrow as we entered the stall. “I should be able to squeeze it into my busy day.”
“Good.” I shut the door and brushed her lips with mine, then I moved to her jaw, then her neck.
“I thought you had to run,” Brook murmured.
“I have a few minutes.”
Chapter 29
-Brooke-
I’d never been so nervous to go to breakfast in my entire life.
I’d expected William to pick somewhere normal, not one of the most popular restaurants in New York. And I hadn’t thought that he might utilize his billionaire powers and get the place opened for us an hour early because he had meetings afterward.
All this made me feel like I needed to up my game, so much to my dismay, I was wearing the blue and white dress Victoria had given me along with a pair of Jessica’s ankle boots.
“Stop tugging it,” Jessica said as she walked into her living room carrying her shoes. She wore a pair of dark trousers and a navy-blue blouse that plunged just low enough to make any hot-blooded man look twice.
“It itches.” I winced and lowered my fingers.
