Someone cleared their throat, and I groaned.
“You’re pretty good at this romance stuff, big brother,” Courtney said.
“Go away, Courtney,” I said as I went back to Brooke.
“Fine, but your dog is barking at a cow that’s coming this way.”
Brooke giggled as our lips were still together, and I was happy to note that it was just as delightful now as it had been the first time. “Stupid fence,” she said as she pulled away.
I grinned, and Brooke’s fingers traced my lips. “That’s a category-ten smile, William.”
“What?” I asked.
She laughed. “Never mind.”
“The cow is getting closer,” Courtney sounded concerned.
“Did you bring jeans?” Brooke asked. “Because it looks like we’ve got another fence to mend.”
I stroked her cheek and said, “In a minute.”
Epilogue
-Brooke-
“This was a good idea,” I said as I slipped my arm around William’s waist.
“It was your idea.” William pulled me to him and dropped a kiss on my cheek.
It didn’t matter how many times he did that, it continued to take my breath away. “I am a genius.”
William chuckled. “Obviously.”
We stood in the middle of the ranch—now William’s ranch—watching the first annual friends and family Thanksgiving four-wheeler extravaganza.
“Are you ready?” Conner shouted.
“So ready,” Xavier said from lane one.
“You’re going down, kid.” Courtney revved her four-wheeler and grinned.
The boys and Courtney had taken a bizarre and fascinating liking to one another. William had told me that his sister was a different person when she wasn’t in public, but I hadn’t believed him until she’d started hanging out here. The kids loved her, and she seemed to enjoy chilling with people who didn’t want anything more than to ask her a thousand questions about rich people stuff.
At first, I was cautious about it, but Patrick often tagged along, and I’d caught them all watchingVoltronmore than once, which Courtney still denied.
“This is the quarter finals!” Conner held a green flag aloft. “The winner of this race will face Nanette in the semifinals.”
I glanced over and found David and Nanette arm in arm. She waved and blew a kiss at the racers.
William had somehow remembered that I’d mentioned a four-wheeler race way back when he’d first come to the ranch, and the month before, he’d asked me about it.
It had been one of several things that had gone by the wayside of him taking over the ranch, rebuilding the horse barn, paving roads, mending fences, buying horses, keeping up with Harris Inc., helping the rescue build a new roof, and dating me.
We’d decided to invite anyone who didn’t have Thanksgiving plans to come to the ranch for the weekend. William had somehow put together a whole day of races for everyone to compete in. He had prizes and everything.
David was between projects, so he and Nanette had come. Teresa and Marcus had also accepted the invitation, along with Jessica.
