“I already told ye what she said,” Jamie replied testily.
Angus stared. “That’s all ye got? Ye didn’t find out anythin’ personal about her or ask for references? As an employer, ye’re either daft or besotted to have hired her,” he accused.
Just then Angus’s cell phone rang.
“Dad? It’s Dorothy. Macy and I are finished shopping and we’re hungry. Can we get some lunch?”
“I’ll be right there to pick ye up,” Angus replied. “I’ve got to go,” he told Jamie, slipping the cell phone in his pocket.
Jamie stood up, an irritated flush on his face. “For yer information, I’m neither daft nor besotted. Macy just seemed like she needed help so I did what I felt was right. If ye are that worried, check her purchases to make sure she didn’t buy a knife to slip between yer ribs on the way home,” he added sarcastically.
Angus grinned. “No need to get yer back up, I would of done the same thing. I get the feelin’ she’s in some sort of trouble and I intend to find out what it is.”
“I tried to get more information out of her, but she wouldn’t say anything.”
“That’s cause ye are lackin’ the Angus charm. I’ll have her talkin in no time.”
Jamie rolled his eyes. “Lord, preserve us from criminals and bampots.”
Angus smirked over his shoulder as he went out the back door. “Ye’re just jealous.”
Chapter 5
“Where do ye lasseswant to eat?” Angus asked as they left the market.
Dorothy’s eyes lit up and she bounced on her seat. “The Waterfront! Can we please go to The Waterfront Pub for fish and chips?”
“Unless you have a McDonalds, I don’t know anything about the diners you have here,” Macy added with a laugh. “McDonalds I know.”
Angus glanced sideways at her. “Would ye prefer McDonalds?”
Macy could see that he wouldn’t prefer it but then she didn’t either. This was her chance to eat the local food. “Not necessarily. I’d prefer to try local cuisine while I’m here, especially from one of the infamous pubs that seem to dot the UK.”
“Then The Waterfront it is. They have Haggis bon bons ye can sample,” he added with a teasing grin.
Macy wrinkled her nose. “I hope they have something strong enough to wash them down with.”
