“Mom, I already said yes.” Matt nodded as he locked another block in place. “So did grandpa.”
“You asked my son and dad?”
“Yes, ma’am.” He took the ring from the box and reached for my left hand. “What’s it gonna be, Sweetness?”
“And Matt?”
“He’s already mine we just need a judge to make it legal.”
“What about more kids?”
“Then our family grows.” He looked at Matt. “Would that be cool with you?”
“Yeah. I could dig it.” He nodded.
“Now back to my original question. Marry me?”
“Yes.”
He slid the ring on my finger, then stood up, pulling me to him in a bear hug. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Francis.”
Edith
We had a quiet wedding on the same day we finalized the adoption. Frank wanted it that way so we would all be Holliday’s together.
We moved into Frank’s house, and I loved having a backyard for the kid to play in and it’s nice having a little space from my family.
Although I think Evie is sure she lives here part time.
I’d been waiting all day to surprise Frank, and now that they’re home, I can. Frank came into the kitchen, sniffing the air.
“Something smells good.” His deep voice rumbled.
“It’s for you.”
“Really?” He pulled me close, kissing me. “What is it?”
“You’ll see.” I moved from his arms and went to stand by the sink.
When the timer went off, he grabbed a potholder and pulled the baking sheet from the oven. “You made me a bun?”
“Yep.”
He set it on the stovetop. “It’s just a bun?”
“Mm-hmm.” I nodded.
He looked from it to me and back again, obviously confused. “Why just a bun?”
I couldn’t help the giggle that came out. “Where’d you get it from?”
“The oven.”
“Put it together, Francis.”
His eyebrow rose as he muttered to himself. “Oven bun, I took the bun from the ov …” His head snapped up as he looked at me. “Bun in the oven?”
