“I’ll miss you,” she said and leaned her entire body into mine to put her arms around my waist.
“Don’t let New Jersey convince you that you hate me while I’m gone.”
“He’s leaving tomorrow, too,” she reminded me and laughed.
I surprised myself by how much I was stalling. I didn’t want to leave her. The last twenty-four hours were painful. If they were painful for me, they had to have been hell for her. Leaving her alone with that felt like the kind of thing an asshole would do, even though she was the one sending me out on this job.
“I’ll be fine, Utah,” she insisted, like she’d seen right into my thoughts. “Jersey and Triss will be here tonight. Indy isalwayshere. Kyle’s usually around somewhere. And I’ve lived with this for my entire adult life. I’m okay.”
“Call me anytime, angel,” I said on a frustrated sigh.
CHAPTER FORTY-NINE
utah
I’d called Indy within minutes of leaving to set him up on a task. This one weighed heavier on my mind than anything else since Memphis told us about being held in that house.
I only made it a few hours into the drive toward Michigan before Memphis texted me. Just seeing her name flash across the screen made me feel like I could breathe a little easier.
Memphis
Supposed to storm here soon.
A plain fucking text message of just words shouldn’t have been able to send a rush of blood straight to my dick.
But here we were.
I didn’t even have the chance to respond before she’d sent another.
Memphis
These sex games. I’ve been thinking.
She was about to start sexting me, and I was about to die.
I responded to that shit as quickly as I could.
Me
I’m listening, angel.
Memphis
Our first night, you said I could tie you up and use you if I needed it to happen that way. Is that still an option?
Me
Knowing that it’s about to storm is why you’re thinking about this?
Memphis
Storms don’t make you think of me?
Me
Everything makes me think of you, sugar.
