“How do you feel?” She giggles.

“How do I feel?” I slap a hand to my forehead. “I feel like an idiot. I just did the one thing I swore I wasn’t going to freaking do on this trip.”

“I mean, not really. You didn’t sleep with him. The sexual tension between the two of you was willing to snap at some point.” The sound of something crunching fills the line.

“Are you freaking eating popcorn right now?” My jaw drops slightly, is she serious?

“Well, yeah. This is entertaining, and entertainment deserves popcorn.” She laughs. “Do you regret what happened?”

“Yes,” I rush out, then backtrack. “I mean… no? I don’t freaking know. I’m so damn confused, this trip was a mistake,” I whine.

“Or maybe it wasn’t,” she says so matter of factly.

“Oh, it was. I can tell you that much for certain already.” I sigh. “I still have two more days with him in this cabin before we have the long day of traveling cooped up in his truck on the way home.” I look at the door again. “What am I going to do?” I whisper.

“Just enjoy it, Kam. It doesn’t have to be this serious. You’re both adults, staying in a cabin together, let nature take its course.”

“Who the hell talks like that?” Let nature take its course.

“I’m just saying, if you’re both feeling each other, enjoy it. When you come home, you can pretend as if nothing ever happened.” She crunches on more popcorn, thoroughly enjoying this struggle in my life.

“I’m not built to do that,” I tell her, I’m a relationship gal, not a one night stand or friends with benefits. I don’t need a situationship.

“Just try it. If it doesn’t work then stop and go back to your brooding.” She laughs.

“I do not brood.” I frown.

“Sure you don’t, babe. Well, have fun with all your sweaty, cabin sex with that hot baseball boy and call me with all the details.” She pauses. “But text me before you call so I can get the popcorn ready.”

“Byeeeee,” I draw the word out and end the call.

Okay. Breathe.

Kris and I have a long day of wedding activities today, so maybe we won’t even notice one another. I mean, he’ll be busy acting as the best man so he shouldn’t pay too much attention to me today, right?

I step into the shower, letting the warm water cascade down my body as I continue to sort through my jumbled thoughts about what I’m going to do with the mess I’ve just made myself.

I’m so screwed.

KRIS

It’s been two hours since Kam went upstairs.

I wanted to follow, but I chose not to for the safety of my nuts. They’ve already taken enough of a hit today.

I’ve already showered, got dressed, stared at the mountain side, and paced this living room forty times waiting for her to resurface.

The rehearsal dinner is more of a rehearsal lunch, and the rest of the evening will be spent with the bridal party doing something after the fact, but my brother didn’t give me too many details.

I’m standing with my back to the stairs when I hear a foot on the steps behind me. Turning, the breath is sucked from my lungs. Her long, auburn hair is curled and tucked behind one ear, giving me a glance at her slender neck. Her dark green dress wraps tightly around her waist, showing me her perfect curves.

She pauses once both feet hit the bottom step, and looks at me across the room.

“Do you think this is too much?” her voice quivers as she asks.

“I think you look gorgeous,” I tell her, honestly.
