“Feel like what?” I could answer for her, but I wanted her to trust me enough to use her own words. And I’d already pushed her hard.

“Nothing.” Color blossomed on her cheeks. “Forget I said anything.”

“Never.” I knew how to play this game. “Be honest with me. Tell me how it feels for you when we touch.”

The spark of defiance shone on her face again. That slight smile was a tether straight to my beast.

“You’re awfully bossy,” she said.

I laid my palm flat on the table. “Beautiful, you have no idea how bossy I can be.”

“You’re unbelievable.” She rolled her eyes, fighting a smile as she leaned back against the chair. “What is this? Are you slumming? Trying to fulfill some Alpha challenge urge by chasing me? The next five minutes are about to start.”

I felt my eyebrows draw together, hating the insinuation. “I wasn’t born to my position or handed it on a silver platter like most of these children.”

“I know that, Ranger McCaw.” She laughed. “I know all about you.”

I was too busy listening to the way my name sounded on her lips to catch the meaning behind her words until a half second later.

The bell rang.

Molly came rushing to the table. “Mr. McCaw, it’s time to change seats.”

“I’m not finished here,” I growled at Molly, still watching Aspen who gave me a knowing smirk.

Molly pinched the bridge of her nose and talked into her headset as she walked away. “Camera seven pan out for a wide shot and see if you can cut this table from the feed.”

Aspen was staring at me with that spark of defiance in her eyes. “Tell me again how you’re just like the rest of us wolves who have to follow the rules.”

Aspen

The nerve of this alphahole and his massive, big dick energy. Admittedly, I’d never seen said appendage in the flesh, but he sat there all calm and collected and sure of himself as if the bulge in his pants was the Goddess’s gift to the earth.

Not like I was imagining his cock or anything.

I’ll bet his knot is huge.

I squeezed my thighs together.

Wait… What were we talking about?

I glanced at Molly nervously, hoping she was aware one of us–me–had tried to follow the rules. It was Ranger who refused to move from the table and we were now in round nine of the bell rings.

But with the way she’d given into him, I figured he wouldn’t have a problem staying on the show. Not with his title and money and mafia connections and big, thick…

I swallowed hard, dragging my attention back to his face.

“Let me see your list.” Ranger motioned to the generic questions I’d prepared so I could at least seem somewhat interested in this speed dating thing.

“No.” I held the page against my chest. There was a part of me that realized I probably shouldn’t challenge the deliciously dangerous red-flag of an Alpha, but in my defense, it was really hard not to.

“No?” There he went, arching that eyebrow again. A hint of a smile teased his perfect lips and my wolf purred.

“It’s my list,” I bit back, failing once again at not challenging the scary Alpha. “You can’t cheat by preparing your answers for the questions in advance.”

Ranger stared, confused. The intensity of his gaze made me hot all over. It was early spring for Goddess’ sake. Where was the breeze?
