” This is not what I was expecting.”
“Tomorrow, you need to reach out to Logan and tell him you’ve reconsidered his offer.”
I look back at my sister and blow out a breath. “Fine.”
She claps excitedly before she stands up and gives me a quick hug. “Be safe going home.”
” Of course, you drank the whole bottle of wine, not me,” I tease.
She laughs and shrugs. I grab my purse and head out to the car. For the entire twenty-minute drive back into the city, my brain is focused on thoughts of Logan.
Imagine my shock when I reach the lobby of my apartment, the elevator doors open, and Logan steps out.

LOGAN
Where could she have been all night?
She left the party hours ago.
” Where were you?” I practically growl.
Shit, I didn’t mean to come off like that.
Her eyes widen in shock before they narrow. She doesn’t answer, just walks past me angrily.
” Serena, I’m talking to you.”
” I’m aware, but I don’t have to respond to your rudeness. I answer to no one.”
I inhale slowly before blowing it out. “I apologize. I didn’t mean to come off like a jerk. It’s just that you left without saying goodbye to me, and I was hoping that we could talk. I…was worried about you.”
” I left without saying bye because there wasn’t anything I could say without anger,” she snaps as she unlocks her door.
She walks in, leaving it open for me to follow.
That’s a good sign.
“I know you’re mad at me. You have every right to be. Please don’t let that keep you from letting me help with the eviction.”
” You can’t just throw money around and think it’ll solve all the problems.”
” Listen, I know that, but in this situation, it’s all I had. Brant is a damn good lawyer and…”
” About that, my sister says that I should accept your help because of that reason. She thinks that the two of them teaming up against Levy will be the end-all, be-all of him.”
” I think that’s a good idea. I don’t know your sister, but Logan gets shit done. Together, they can probably just get Levy and his buyer to back off. Brant’s really good at appealing to that sort of crowd.”
” Okay, then I’ll accept your help there, but it doesn’t make what you did okay, and it doesn’t mean that I forgive you.”
” Understood.”
She’s walking around her apartment, picking things up, unable to stand still.
Am I making her nervous?
I walk over and grab her wrist before I tug her into me.
