“Is this how you talk to all of your landlords?” I say, reminding her that she is staying in this overpriced apartment because of Megan…and because of me.
“No, she doesn’t. She’s forgotten her manners,” Megan interjects. “Can I talk to you for a moment, Naomi?”
Naomi squints her eyes suspiciously at me as she walks back to her bedroom. It bothers me that the roommate despises me for no reason at all but that’s nothing new. I should be used to it. It’s just that for whatever asinine reason, I want whatever friends Megan has to like me.
“I’m sorry about that. She’s a little territorial and may have a few trust issues.”
“Did you two grow up together?”
“No, I met her when I left home. She was the first friend I made here in the city.”
“So, I need to get my day started, but I didn’t want to leave without letting you know that I’m attaching a security team to you for a while.”
She blinks at me. “Come again?”
“I just don’t want you to be startled if you see two men following you,” I explain. “They’ll stay out of your hair for the most part, and I’ll make sure that Parker or Lars introduce you.”
“Wait, I don’t understand.” She grabs my hand. “Why do I need a security team?”
I stare into her gorgeous eyes and know that if I tell her that I looked into her family situation, it will not go over well. What I deem as looking after her might come off as prying, especially when it comes to her family. The fact that her sister is practically stalking her and that I’m pretty sure it has something to do with her father worries the hell out of me. And with everything I’ve got going on, the last thing I need is to be concerned about Megan’s dysfunctional family hurting her. So, instead, I decide to give her an alternate but completely valid reason.
“There are some things going on with me and the club, and I just want to make sure that nobody looks at you and sees a vulnerable target.”
“Oh.” She releases her hold on me, frowning. “That makes sense, but can’t Lars or Parker do it?”
“They need to be with me since I’m the one in the real trouble.” I try smiling to diffuse the tension between us.
As I head to the door, she says, “I told Diana about the new job yesterday, so you’ll make the necessary calls, right?”
“I had Parker take care of it, but I still don’t approve,” I tell her. “Did she thank you at least?”
“Not really.” She shrugs. “She didn’t say much of anything to me when I told her, but she looked relieved. It’s fine. I didn’t really expect a thank you. She’s learned her lesson, and I doubt she’ll try to pull something like this again. Plus, this whole incident has put the rest of the servers on alert. I’m doing a reevaluation of everyone on staff, and then I’m going to do a round of new hires. Just because we serve some questionable customers at the Blue Whiskey doesn’t mean we should have questionable service.”
“Very funny. My club serves an elite clientele.”
“Whom have all served time.”
My lips twitch, and I walk over to kiss the tip of her nose.
“Keep up that attitude, and I might fuck you right here on your kitchen counter.”
She blushes at the thought, and I make a mental note of it.Megan wants to be fucked on the kitchen counter.
“People are here. You need to behave.” She scowls at me. “Just go.”
“You sure?” I tease. “I could finger fuck you real quick and make you come. Neither one of them will know.
“What is wrong with you?” She laughs hysterically. “You seriously have a problem.”
“I’ve had a problem with that shirt you’re wearing the entire time I’ve been in this apartment.”
I walk her back against the wall next to the front door. Her butt hits the wall first as she stares up at me in wonderment. I slide my hand down the front of her loose sweatpants and into her panties.
“I knew you’d be wet,” I say in guttural tones.
Her head tilts back against the wall. “Hunter, don’t do this.”
I steal a kiss from her delicious lips as I work two of my fingers slowly through her folds. I know I have her right where I want her when she grasps the sides of my jacket because her legs are quivering like noodles.
