I feel the pinch of sharp canines on my neck, more real than I’ve ever felt in a dream.

“Stop!” I gasp. “I… I believe you.”

He releases his jaw and licks over the marks. “I always wanted to bite someone like that—as a werewolf.”

“Great. Achievement unlocked,” I sass. Then I pull back as much as I can and study Arran’s face. “Let’s just say this is real, and you’re trying to seduce me so you can feed off my sexual energy… why do you need it?”

“I’ve been feeding off your emotional energy for days, but it isn’t enough. I need more so I can remember everything. But I had to drain my reserves to save you.”

“I was sick…”

“It was more dire than that. If you are to continue to survive, I will need to feed you energy. You might even need outside help.”

“I’m that bad?”

He nods. “And I don’t like you rummaging through my sexual memories so I can feed.”

“I didn’t mean to invade your privacy.”

He grunts as if he’s still not convinced.

“I mean, the scenes were hot as a volcano, but I didn’t realize it was real,” I grimace. “Sorry.”

He studies my face or energy, or whatever, for a long moment. “I sense you are only starting to understand. You really don’t know about supes and witches?”

“I didn’t… And you need my energy to become stronger?” I ask, nervous to hear his answer.

Osen uses Maxum’s hand to wrap around my throat, pinching enough to make me feel how real this is. “Yes, and because your magic isn’t enough to protect you.”

“Why do you care if I stay alive?” I ask.

“If you die, I won’t be able to avenge my death.”

“Death goals. I get it.” I realize there’s more to his game. “Are you planning on taking complete control of my body?”

“I need to confirm you aren’t the spy as I had suspected. But if you are innocent, I won’t possess you permanently.”

“Just for weekends and date nights?”

“You are a sassy one… even though I sense you now realize this is truly happening.”

I don’t know how I know, but I do… this is terrifyingly real.

He continues, his voice soft and thoughtful, “As long as you aren’t the one who killed me, I’ll leave when I know my pack is safe and my murder solved.”

I feel the truthfulness in his words.

“If you want to sex me up, full disclosure… I hooked up with Arran,” I admit, feeling guilty.

“You aren’t exclusive, though.”

“No, but…”

“I heard his conversation with you. He’d share your love with the rest of us. We all share our bodies. Well, except for Flint,” he explains. “Having multiple partners is not unheard of with our kind.”

He’s right, Arran told me he didn’t mind if we were with other people.

“Can you show me what you look like?” I ask.
