I kicked off my boots. “He was upset. Eric has been one of my best friends forever. He wanted us to be a couple.”

Collin twisted off the cap and placed the water bottle in my hand. I chugged half the bottle.

He sat in the chair at the desk. “Do you want to be with him?”

Collin twirled a hotel pen on the desk, never making eye contact.

“No,” I whispered.

“Funny story.” I sank on the bed a few feet away.

He never met my gaze.

“I knew who you were before you arrived.”

Collin’s brows rose, and he glanced at me.

“I make it a point to know what all my customers look like.”

He chuckled. “Oh. Wait.” Collin raised his finger. “You were nonchalant when you stepped on my boot earlier.”

“Wasn’t sure what to do or how to act when I saw you. I knew I needed to get out of there. I’d only stared at your pics for a couple of weeks before you arrived.” I laughed.

“So you are attracted to me?” He leaned over.

“Collin, it doesn’t matter if I am or not. You’re single, and you’ll return to California to your influx of women. I’ll be nothing more than a memory. I have to use the bathroom. I’ll be back.”

Sitting on the toilet, the room moved around me. I snickered. I could be a little silly when I was drunk. Sometimes brushing my teeth rid the taste of vodka from my mouth and kept me from tossing my cookies. After I washed my hands, I exited the bathroom. Collin sat in the same spot, spinning the pen.

I sat on the bed and peeled my jeans off.

His eyes combed over my brown thighs and legs. “Kara, what are you doing?”

“Getting ready for bed.”

He stood. “Climb under the blanket, then I’ll leave. If you need anything…” He placed a business card on the nightstand. “…call me.”

“You don’t have to tuck me in. I’ll be fine.” I sat in the middle of the bed.

“I want you to know one thing.”

“Yeah, what’s that?”

“You could never be just a memory. You’ve held my attention since I laid eyes on you earlier today. I tried to rid the attraction. Tried telling myself all I want to do is fuck you. But that’s not true.”

I stood on my knees, inching closer to him.

“Collin, shush. We just met. This isn’t going anywhere between us.” My eyes stared at his pink lips. I gripped his sweater, pulling him closer.

“Kiss me already.”

His lips crushed mine with need and desire. I’ve never been kissed with such passion. My arms slipped around his neck. He lowered us to the bed.

“I hate how turned on I’ve been for you over the past two weeks.” I breathed against his lips.

His eyes popped open. “I can’t believe you wanted me for two weeks. This morning I thought you hated me.”

“I did hate you. You judged me for being a female tour guide. And not to mention because I’m black.”
