We held our glasses high.
“I had to fight off the local guys. I was able to persuade this beautiful woman to leave her life and move to L.A. with me. I’m a lucky man. Here’s to great friends and a wonderful woman to spend the rest of my days with.”
My cheeks heated.
Our glasses clanked. “Cheers,” rang out around the table.
I drank half the champagne in a gulp.
Twenty minutes later, I was still engrossed in a conversation with Sydney.
“You’ll have to come over. My cousin Samantha and Sebastian’s cousin’s wife Lydia would love to meet you. We’ll have a light lunch at my house. I think I should warn you now my cousin is married to Jacob Latters.”
I threw my hands over my mouth. “What?” My eyes burned. I thought they’d pop out of the sockets.
“Are you serious?”
“As a heart attack.”
“Wow. I love his show.”
“I’ll get tickets from Jacob so you and Collin can visit the set.”
I screamed and ran to the other side of the table, hugging her tight. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
I sat back in my seat. “Sydney, I can’t believe you have children at home and you two still came out last minute to spend time with us. Most importantly, you’re inviting me into your circle. You both are so thoughtful.” Tears welled in my eyes.
“I can see the spark in your eye. You don’t take anyone’s shit.”
I dabbed at my eyes.
“Sydney, she doesn’t. The day she arrived in L.A. Kara gave the waitress a piece of her mind at lunch.”
“She was flirting with my man right in front of me. The nerve.”
A devilish smile curled Sydney’s lips. “Sebastian, I love her.” Her eyes never left mine. Was she plotting something?
“She’s a woman after my own heart.”
He flashed his pearly whites. “Baby, don’t get any ideas.”
An evil spark flashed in her brown eyes. “Ever shot a gun before?”
“Of course, I have. My dad and I hunt deer. I carry a shotgun on my overnight trips on tours. Never know what wild animal might decide to attack.”
“Yeah, she’s a tough one,” Collin chuckled.
“Good. We sometimes hangout at the gun range in my cousin’s basement. You know, just brushing up on our skills.”
“Sounds like fun.”
I glanced at Sebastian. “Collin’s condo is absolutely to die for. I love the view from the rooftop. You did a great job finding his place.”
“Thanks.”
“Does your family live downtown too?”
