I sighed, knowing I was probably needed in the office.
“As a matter of fact, I think there is. I think I’ve mourned enough and need to get back in there, but I’d like to sit down with you and Matt Stevens and get an update on what’s going on. Can we schedule that please?” I dragged myself to an upright position and pushed my hair out of my face.
“Would you like me to transfer you to your assistant and let her check your schedule?” He sounded rather cheerful. I almost forgot that I’d hired Shay to be my assistant before everything went sideways.
“Yes, I would love that. And Grant, thank you for not writing me off.” I got up and started pacing around the room.
“I could never do that. I knew you’d figure it out somehow.” I wish I could be as sure as him.
He disconnected as he transferred the call to Shay’s desk.
“Grant Johnson’s office.” Shay said bright and cheery, making me smile as always.
“How about if you start answering Alex Kennedy’s office from now on?” I had to hold the phone away from my ear as the high pitched shrill hit my ear.
“Are you serious? Why didn’t you tell me?”
Maybe because I didn’t even know yet.Ha!
“I literally just made the decision yesterday after I heard what an asshole I’ve been for dumping everything on everyone.” I was pacing faster the madder I became at myself for what I’d done to everyone.
“Well, tomorrow night we celebrate you returning to the office.”
I could still hear the excitement in her voice. “Sounds good to me, but Roman has decided he’s going to be there.”
She screamed again. “Oh my God, you got back together?”
Wow, what? I did not say that. No.
“No, we didn’t, but he can’t seem to leave me alone and I didn’t want him just showing up unannounced. At least this way I’ll know he’s coming.” Okay this pacing is making me nervous, I need to sit back down. I found the nearest chair and sat as fast as I could and dropped my head between my knees.
She quickly added, “None of my business, but the guy’s hot. I don’t see why you don’t want him around. He’s nice too.”
I laughed and whipped my head back up and mumbled out, “Damn, everyone is Team Roman. It’s fine, I have my reasons and that’s all there is right now.”
She let out a sigh. No one really knew what happened that night and why this thing with me and Roman is so hard.
“Ok, I won’t ask again. I’m just glad he’s coming so I can ogle him.”
“Oh my God Shay. What would Owen think?” It’s kind of hard not to stare at this beautiful specimen of a man though.
“What? I can admire a fine piece of art without touching it.” We both laughed.
“I’ll see you tomorrow night. Are we meeting at my place?”
She hesitated for a moment. “We’re going to have dinner at seven and then head over,” she said with a bit of reservation to her tone. I guess she was worried I would get mad since they didn’t invite me.
“I’ll just meet you at the club then. I have training from 5:00-6:30 and then I’ll have to go home, shower and change. I won’t have time to meet you for dinner. I can Uber over after I get ready.” Not a big deal.
“Can’t wait.” She seemed relieved.
“Now for the business. I called for a reason. I need you to check my schedule and Grant’s and see if we can meet with Matt Stevens next week for an hour.”
We said goodbye then I called Roman to set up an interview time for next week with Darius. I’ve got to keep this professional, so I’m going to set it up through Amelia.
“Roman King’s office.”
“Hi, it’s Alex.”
