“He told me if I’ve fucked you, he’s going to kill me.”
My heart races as Felix’s words sink in. A man threatening to kill him? For touching me? Cold fear coils in my gut.
It can only be one person.
“Felix, where are you?” I demand, my voice trembling.
“Not in fucking New York, that’s for sure,” he replies, panic evident in his tone. “And if you’re as clever as I now know you are, I’d advise you to run, too.”
I swallow hard. My mouth is suddenly dry. “Did...did the man give his name?”
Before Felix can answer, the elevator doors slide open with a soft ding.
But it’s the sound of a gunshot ripping through the air that sends a chill through me.
I drop my phone in shock, and scramble to the floor to retrieve it, but Callum’s strong hands grab me before I can reach it.
“Stay down!” he barks, forcing me into a crouch.
My heart pounds in my ears as Callum makes me crawl commando-style to the corner of the lobby floor. He pulls out his cell as the polished marble chills my skin. But not as much as Felix’s call.
“Bring the car to the side door.”
An engine roars to life, but my heart drops hearing people screaming in the distance.
I struggle to breathe, my chest tight with panic as I reach for my cell.
“Felix,” I gasp.
But he’s disconnected, and the call shows no number.
The car screeches to a stop at the door.
“Keep your head low and stay by my side.”
I do as he asks and Callum practically shoves me into the waiting town car, his body shielding mine as I get inside.
I hear another gunshot, and the sound of shattering glass. My heart is thudding against my breastbone.
“Where’s Jackson?” My voice rises with fear.
“He’s gotten back into the elevator.”
“Call him and tell him to keep West safe. Tell West my past is here.”
Callum stares at me. “This was about you?”
I nod as my cell rings.
Felix.
Blood pounds in my ears as I answer with a quiet, “Yes.”
“Time to come home.”
And the voice isn’t Felix’s.
