Daisy didn’t, but she still smiled and nodded.

“Well, do you want to hang out with us while you wait on him?” Alyssa said.

“That would be great! Hey, have y’all seen the arcade yet?” Selena asked them.

“No. But we’ve been talking about going,” Grace replied.

“Let’s go! They have the coolest games,” Selena told her. “And I know a shortcut. The trick is to go outside rather than walk all the way through the buildings. This complex is huge, but there’s a little alley we can cut through. Come on.”

Daisy finished her text, telling Austin that they’d run into Selena, before tucking the phone back into her purse and hurrying away with her friends.

She hoped the Daddies were getting the answers they needed. Right now, though, for her, it was all about fun.

And she was having a blast!

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

“Alright,” Scott said, as he looked away from his computer’s monitor and to the five men who sat before his desk. “How could I have forgotten this guy?”

He took his readers off and pinched the bridge of his nose as he closed his eyes and shook his head.

“What’s wrong?” Cane asked.

Scott sighed, opened his eyes, and put his glasses back on. He leaned back in his chair and, with a grave look in his eyes, delivered the news. “The guy who owns that company is named Paul Heaton. He’s a real piece of work, which is why I stopped taking contracts from him. He was accused of doing some shady stuff down in Louisiana and East Texas. Insurance schemes, defrauding clients, and all sorts of stuff to make a buck. Did some prison time, but only about a year.” He snorted. “Rumor has it paid off some influential people to get that reduced sentence.”

He swung his monitor around so the guys could see an article he’d pulled up online.

“Hey!” Cane said.

“That’s Jason Bennett,” Walker blurted out.

“Who’s Jason Bennett?” Scott asked as his expression morphed from triumphant to puzzled.

“That guy.” Walker pointed at the screen.

“He lives in Big Cedar,” Quinn explained. “He’s a real estate developer.”

“He bought that land in your community years ago. Before he went to prison,” Scott said.

Quinn stood and began pacing as he hashed the thing out. “So, he buys the land, sits on it while he does his time, and then comes to Oklahoma for a fresh start.”

Walker stood, too, and nodded. “Reinvents himself with this alias and goes right back to his old schemes, thinking he can cash in on the tourism boom we have going on.”

“Guys!” The urgency in Austin’s voice was evident as he sprang up from his chair. “We’ve got a problem.”

“What’s wrong?” Walker asked.

Austin was already running toward the door. “Just got a text from Daisy. Jason and Selena are at the casino.”

The other Daddies hurried after him.

“Thanks, brother!” Theo called over his shoulder. “We’ll keep you posted.”

With that, the Daddies took off, racing to reach their sweet girls, and praying they were safe.

One thing was for sure: if anyone hurt their women, there’d be hell to pay.
