I walk toward my suite door with a knowing glare, while we maintain eye contact. I pull out my key card and give it a little wave.
He scoffs. “In that case, I look forward to keeping you up all night.”
Why did he say itlike that? And what does hemeanby that? More importantly, why did it make my heart skip a beat?
It’s probably just my hormones acting up at this hour. Which also explains my response. “Not if I keep you upfirst.”
He pauses in his doorway. “That literally makes no sense. Then we’d both be up.”
“Whatever. You know what I meant,” I say.
“Not really. No,” he says.
“Goodnight,” I call as I shut my door behind me.
The shower relaxes me, but not enough to stop wondering what Enrique is thinking.
Tonight was supposed to be our date, which then turned into a club outing with his friends, which then turned into me spending more time with his best friend than I did with him.
Did he even notice that?Did he even care when I left? Could he also be casually dating other people right now? Could Clara be one of them?
And Luca…what was he doing on the other side of this wall?
If I couldn’t sleep before, I definitely can’t now.
CHAPTER 5
“Cruel Summer” – Taylor Swift
IT LOOKS LIKE LUCA ISN’T joining us for breakfast today. He must be fueling his energy to piss me off for the rest of the day.
Enrique seems way more well rested than I am despite how much more he drank at the club. “Sorry for passing out like that last night,” he tells me. “Did you have fun?” He smiles obliviously. “I don’t remember seeing you again at the club before we drove back.”
What a surprise. Heactuallynoticed I was gone. “Yeah I had fun,” I say, referring to the first half of the evening. “I just took a step outside.”
“Okay good. I wanted you to have fun,” he says, holding his cheery grin.
That’s actually pretty sweet. And he sounds sincere. I don’t want to get my hopes up though. “So any fun plans for the day?” I ask, silently hoping he invites me along.
“Yeah, Luca and a few of us were gonna go surfing for a bit.” Enrique pauses, before adding, almost as an afterthought, “I’d invite you but I wasn’t sure if that’s something you’d want to do.”
I want to scream. Then ask me!My goodness. Why is this so complicated for him? Must I do all the work for both of us.
“Oh, I wouldn’t mind joining,” I fake eagerness at the activity I also don’t particularly care for.
“Yeah of course,” Enrique replies, his brows raised in slight surprise. “I didn’t know you like to surf?”
“I’ve been once or twice. It’ll be fun to go again,” I stretch the truth, considering how Itriedbut miserably failed to surf once.
Then I feel my phone vibrate and see it’s a text from Georgia:
Georgia: The refrigerator’s broken, my cereal was expired, and I was two hours late to my meeting. Maybe I should have just come to Spain with you...
Jasmine: Oh wow. Have we traded places?
Georgia: lol you’re right, this is like a typical afternoon for you
Jasmine: lmao sadly
