Page 10 of Trick or Treat

“No. She’s with Race tonight. Why do you ask?”

“Because you keep looking toward the back door. Thought maybe Cami caught your eye.”

“No. I’d rather get a piece of that woman with her. Have you ever seen her before?” Trick couldn’t figure out what it was about her that had him twisting in knots Weird.

“No. Never seen her before.” He elbowed him and said, “Better get to it. Looks like Tuck and Jed might be heading that way.”

“Well, shit. Cut ’em off while I go after her.” Trick didn’t wait for a response, he knew his brother would have his back.

“Tuck! Jed!” The two men stopped their pursuit of the new woman in their midst and detoured toward where Jackson stood waving them over.

Trick weaved his way through the crowd, giving chin lifts to people here and there, steering women toward other brothers. He hoped like hell that didn’t come back to bite him in the ass, such as the mystery woman blowing him off.

Finally, he made his way outside. White Christmas lights had been strung up over a few wood picnic tables to give just enough lighting to see where you were going or who you were talking to. He didn’t see Cami or her friend at any of them. He let his eyes drift around the area, finally stopping at the bonfire where several people were sitting in lawn chairs. Bingo. Cami was sitting in Race’s lap, laughing at something Tulsa said, the cute little redhead sitting in a chair between them.

As he approached the bonfire, Tulsa, a prospect soon to be patched, noticed Trick heading their way. With a subtle tip of his head telling the guy to get lost, Tulsa got up and ventured away, leaving an empty seat next to the woman Trick was interested in getting to know a little better. He sat down and leaned back, stretching his legs out in front of him.

“Hey, Trick.”

“Race,” he greeted his president. “Cami, how’s it going?” The successful business owner looked like she’d been there long enough to be feeling good. By the looks of it, her friend looked like she was having a pretty good time, too.

“Pretty good. Have you met my friend Lindsey?” Cami sat in Race’s lap, snuggled into his side.

As he watched, Race took a drag off a joint, held it, then pulled Cami down for a kiss. Whey they pulled apart, she was the one exhaling the smoke, a slow smile on her face. Race offered it to Lindsey. She shook her head, declining a hit.

“No. Can’t say that I have.” Trick leaned forward and accepted the joint from Race. He took a hit, held it, then released it slowly. Race’s hand disappeared under Cami’s short red leather skirt as he nuzzled her neck. Her friend didn’t know where to look. She kept glancing to what Race was doing, then quickly darting away. Trick wasn’t sure if her red cheeks was from sitting close to the fire or from what she was pretending not to be interested in. He suspected in another ten minutes Race would either start fucking Cami right here or take her back to his room. It really was a 50/50 shot which way it would go.

“How’s it going, Lindsey?” Trick blew the smoke above their heads.

“Pretty good.” The woman’s head jerked his direction, clearly embarrassed that she’d been caught watching Race finger her friend. He thought it was cute her voice cracked when she answered. He also thought it was cute that she had a freckle at the right side of her mouth that went up when she smiled. A soft breeze picked up loose strands of her auburn hair, making it look like it was floating around her head.

“This is some good shit,” he eeked out around the drag he was holding.

“New blend Dillon came up with. Gonna be a big seller,” Race informed him.

Big seller indeed. He released his breath, sending smoke up into the sky, then asked Lindsey, “This your first time at a Sons party?” He held the joint out, letting Cami take it. She took a hit, then held it up for Race to take one.

“Yes. This is my first time. Cami’s been trying to get me to come for a long time.” She swept a strand of hair behind her ear.

“You having a good time?”

Lindsey laughed and nodded her head. “I’m having an amazing time.”

“I’ve been telling her for months that she needed to come with me and get laid,” Cami interjected.

“Oh my God, Cami! Seriously?” Lindsey’s voice came out strangled, her cheeks turning an even brighter red.

“It’s true!” Cami laughed. “Your ex was a dud in bed. Any one of these men could rock your world and ruin you for all other men. Believe me, I know.” Cami smiled knowingly at Race.

He laughed and got to his feet with Cami in his arms. “All right then. Challenge accepted. Let’s go rock your world, darlin’.” Cami giggled and did a little finger wave as they wandered off toward the clubhouse. Trick doubted either one would be seen for hours.

He watched Lindsey chew her bottom lip, her eyes focused on her disappearing friend. “Whew. It’s getting hot around this fire.” She absently fanned herself.

“You wanna go for a walk? Get away from the fire?” Trick suggested.

“Um, yes, okay.” She wobbled just a bit when she stood up. Trick shot a hand out quickly and grabbed her elbow to steady her. “Sorry. My heel got stuck in the dirt.”

Trick chuckled. “Not a problem.” He held his elbow out, offering to let her hold on so she didn’t get stuck again. She accepted his gesture and fell into step beside him. He maneuvered them around to the back of the building where the only light came from a half moon. She tripped over something and fell into him, grasping the front of his shirt as he turned to help her. She didn’t immediately let go. Instead she stared up at him, her gaze locked on his mouth.
