“Lindsey?” Kurtis stopped at their table, drawing her attention. Holy cow! Up close he was even better looking. And he smelled divine. What kind of cologne was he wearing? Was this really the same guy?
“Kurtis? Wow. I almost didn’t recognize you. How are you doing?” To say Lindsey was shocked that he stopped at their table was an understatement. After the way things ended with them, she wouldn’t blame him if he never spoke to her again.
“Doing great. Just moved back to town.” He stood with his hands in the pockets of his pressed black slacks. The long sleeves of his royal blue dress shirt were rolled to his elbows, showcasing his tan forearms. He wore no tie, opting to leave the top two buttons undone. The look suited him. The man standing before her was no longer the nerdy geek she remembered.
Cami cleared her throat, gaining Lindsey’s attention.
“Oh, sorry. Kurtis, you remember my friends Cami and Jenna?” Lindsey pointed to each.
“Ladies, nice to see you again as well.” Someone touched his back as they moved behind him. It was a stunning blonde woman. He smiled down at her and watched as she was led to her table, clearly watching her ass.
Lindsey’s eyes shot wide, her brows rising almost to her hairline. She shared a surprised look with Jenna and Cami that had the three of them scrambling to clear their expressions as he turned his attention back to their group.
“Lindsey, we should get together sometime and catch up.” His intense focus might have made her uneasy if it wasn’t for the fact she’d just watched his attention get snagged by the hot blonde.
“That would be nice, Kurtis. I’d like that.” And she meant it. She needed to apologize to him when they met up. She assumed he heard about her and Doug’s divorce or he wouldn’t have suggested meeting up. Would he throw it in her face and tell her, “I told you so?”
“Sounds like a plan. You still have the same phone number?”
“Yes.”
“Okay then. I’ll be in touch. It’s really great seeing you again.” He leaned down and kissed her cheek, lingering for just a second. He winked at Cami and Jenna, then walked away to take a seat at the same table as the blonde woman.
“Wow! I can’t believe how much he’s changed!” Jenna fanned herself, her eyes as big as her smile.
“I know. Who’d have thought?” Lindsey couldn’t get over how much Kurtis Black had changed. It was all for the better, that was for sure. She wondered if he was still the same sweet, soft spoken, nerdy guy he used to be or if he’d turned into a player. With his looks and self-confident manner, he had every right to be. If she remembered correctly, he never really dated in high school. Seeing him with the pretty blonde woman, she bet he got all kinds of attention now.
“I told you way back when that he had a crush on you but you wouldn’t listen or refused to see it.” Cami pointed her fork at Lindsey.
“We told you.” Jenna leaned forward. “Honestly, I think he might be over being mad at you.”
“What?”
“Why else would he come to our table and then suggest getting together to catch up?”
“Yeah, well.
“Are you going to get together with him?” Cami whispered like he could hear them talking from several tables away.
Lindsey thought about it for a minute. “Yeah. I think I will. Could be nice to see what he’s been up to. Might be fun.”
After a lengthy pause while each of them enjoyed their meal, Cami changed the subject. “What are you doing this weekend?”
“Not sure. Why?” Lindsey took another bite of her salad. Damn. This really was good with steak. It was such a big portion, she’d have to take the rest home with her.
“I’m probably going to go to the Sons of Redemption clubhouse if you’re interested.” Cami smiled mischievously while wiggling her brows up and down. “Maybe you’ll see Trick.”
“Cami,” Lindsey frowned. “I already told you, that was a one-time thing. I’m not as free-spirited as you. I can’t just have sex for the sake of having sex. I need to feel a connection with whomever I’m sleeping with.” She quickly held up her hand to cut off the argument she saw coming. “I know it’s considered old-fashioned, but I can’t help it. It’s just who I am.”
Cami chewed her bottom lip. “You had a really good time with Trick the last time, didn’t you?”
“You know I did.” She’d had more than a good time. She’d had a mind-blowing great time. So mind-blowing, she still thought about it every night as she drifted to sleep. Several times when she’d been thinking about him and those steamy memories, she’d find herself trying to relieve the ache between her legs herself and it was never, ever the same. What she wouldn’t give to be as relaxed about her sex life as Cami was. If she could, she’d seek him out in a heartbeat.
“So, what’s the problem?” Cami seemed truly puzzled. For her, if you were horny and you found a willing partner, why not indulge?
“The problem is, what if I went and he didn’t want to have sex with me again? What if he thought I was some clinging vine chasing after him?”
“First of all,” Cami started, “he won’t think you’re a clinging vine. Trick has sex with women more than once all the time.” Lindsey wasn’t so sure that was a glowing endorsement for the hot biker. “He’s not a one-and-done guy. If they both enjoyed themselves the first time, he has no problem doing it again.”
