“Shut the fuck up,” Trick hissed and shoved at Jackson’s shoulder. “Do you want to get her fired?”
“No. Sorry.”
Yeah, he looked real sorry, Trick thought. Not.
His attention returned to the house where his kids stood in line waiting their turn. He chuckled as he watched Reagan hold out her jack-o-lantern for some candy then happily skipped back down the walk in his direction. She thought she was going to bolt and run down to the next house, but he snagged her hand and held on tight. “Hold up for the rest of them, Reagan.”
“Come on, slow pokes!” she yelled at the boys. No more candy for her tonight. She was damn near vibrating as she waited for the boys to start down the sidewalk.
At the next house, it was the same routine as the last 500. It really wasn’t that many, but it sure felt like it to Trick. The theme of this house must have beenTheWalking Deadbecause there were zombies everywhere. In the ground, in the trees, hanging out of the bushes, even a few people dressed as zombies walking around the yard.
Reagan watched the walkers closely, leaning into Keegan’s body, ready to bolt at any moment. Trick, too, watched the walkers closely. If they got too close he might have to quickly nab his girl and get her out of there. She wasn’t a fan of scary things, but what four-year-old was? He was relieved to see that around the smaller kids, they kept a safe distance. As soon as she got her candy, she shot down the walk like her pants were on fire.
“Daddy! Daddy! I did it! I got my candy before any of those scary zombies got me!” Reagan beamed up at him, rather proud of herself.
He patted her wigged head and laughed. “You sure did, baby doll.”
The boys got back and the group moved toward the next house. From where he was walking he could see it was done up a lot more conservatively. There were dried stalks of corn tied to porch posts with black and orange ribbons. Pumpkins in varying sizes sat on bales of hay, some carved and lit, some not. A large black spider that looked like it was made out of black trash bags hung on a web made of white string. It looked like the house of an older couple who enjoyed Halloween but didn’t want to go through the hassle of having to clean up some big displays.
The house itself was a mix of brown brick, salmon-colored shutters and a dark burnt orange door. He was surprised by the color combination, but had to admit he liked it.
“Daddy, I gotta pee.” Reagan tugged on his hand, trying to get his attention.
“Okay. Can you hang on for a minute? We’re almost done.”
“No, Daddy. I gotta go bad.” Reagan’s face was scrunched up as she pulled harder on his hand.
“Okay, okay.” Trick wondered if the nice old couple would let them use their bathroom. He highly doubted it. Once they got a look at his Sons of Redemption MC cut, he’d be lucky if they opened their door to his kids. “Come on. Let’s see if these people will let you use their bathroom.” His only alternative was to have her squat and pee at the side of the house and he knew that wouldn’t go over very well.
Keegan pushed the doorbell and patiently waited for the owners to open the door. It slowly opened and he couldn’t have been more shocked to see Lindsey standing in the doorway dressed in a pair of sweats and a long-sleeve tee. Her auburn hair was up in a messy bun and most of her makeup had been washed off. He’d thought she was sexy the night he’d met her at the clubhouse. And then he’d thought she was hot in her prim and proper teacher attire. Now seeing her in sweats settled low on her hips and just a hint of skin where her t-shirt didn’t quite reach her waist band was a turn on, too.
Well it was official. He still hadn’t gotten his fill of her.
Lindsey was almostout of candy. She looked at the clock and seeing the time, knew that she was only about halfway through her evening. She’d have to get some more candy out of the kitchen between groups of kids before she ran out. Right on cue, her doorbell rang, announcing more trick-or-treaters.
She opened the door, her smile faltering as her eyes landed on the one person she didn’t expect to see tonight. Trick O’Malley. And he wasn’t alone. There was another Sons of Redemption brother with him and the man washot. Her breath caught in her chest at finding the man she’d had sex with twice now. Seeing him confused her. She didn’t know how to act around him outside of school.
“Trick.” Her voice came out all breathless, causing her to inwardly cringe at herself for letting him see how he affected her. What was worse, she was doing it in front of his kids. And a guy from his club. Ugh.
Damn it. Why did this man affect her so much? How was he able to reduce her to a giddy teenager with only a look?
Five days after she’d had sex with him in her classroom, she’d had to call him to come pick up Keegan because his mom failed to pick him up. He barely spoke a handful of words to her. In fact, it felt like he couldn’t get away from her fast enough. As soon as his son’s butt hit the seat, he’d started his bike and off they went.
She didn’t know what she’d been expecting out of him the next time they saw each other, but she had thought there might be something. A little flirting, a little heat in his gaze as he remembered their time together, a little teasing? Had sex with her been so ordinary that it didn’t warrant a knowing smile? Yes, he had Keegan with him, but he could have acknowledged their time together in some way, surely?
That was exactly why she didn’t do casual sex like Cami. She couldn’t separate having sex from her emotions. Must be nice to be a man. You could boink the living daylights out of all the random women you wanted and never feel the least bit of anything toward her. The old sayingwham bam, thank you, ma’ammust be embedded in the male populations DNA.
“Lindsey.” Trick nodded his head in greeting. His smug, self-assured grin made her blush and feel out of sorts in her own home. Good grief. Snap out of it, girl.
“Trick or treat!” A little boy dressed like Iron Man held up his candy bucket, bringing her attention down to him. She dropped a few snack-size candy bars in his bucket, then moved on to someone dressed as Thor.
“Miss Hicks!’” Keegan beamed at her as he pulled his mask over his head so she could see who it was.
“Keegan! Well aren’t you the cutest God of Thunder I’ve ever seen.” She dropped some candy in his bucket as well.
“Daddy, I have to pee. Now!” Cinderella was holding herself between her legs, wiggling around. This must be Keegan’s little sister; the one Trick had mentioned at his parent/teacher conference.
“Oh, honey, why don’t you come inside and use the bathroom?” She opened the door wider and waved the group inside. “Follow me and I’ll show you where it is. Does she need help?” she asked over her shoulder. She caught Trick staring at her ass as they walked down the hall.
