“Where is your phone?”
“I haven’t seen it since last night. I must have dropped it somewhere and I can’t remember where,” Sterling replies.
Shit. The morning chase wasn’t a coincidence.
“Who was it that called you, Boss?”
“I have no fucking idea, Vito, but I’m going to find him.” I stare at the warehouse, infuriated by how I let this happen.
There’s a fucking snitch among my men and he is working for the person that wants me dead. “Find me everyone that was here last night when the product arrived,” I add.
I slide back into my car to return home. By all means, I need to find the son of a bitch playing fucking games with me and end this once and for all.
Driving back home in silence, the rage I felt minutes ago almost completely dissolves as I walk into my house to see Bianca by the bar. I wasn’t expecting her to be here, but I’m glad she is.
“Bianca.”
She has a glass in her hand. It has a red stain on the rim with a few drops of red wine in it. I stare at her, slightly worried. I’m hoping she isn’t back with her addiction. She seemed to handle it better when we were away from the city. Maybe it was because I had her under my watch.
“Relax, brother, I’m not fucking drunk.” She twirls the glass before setting it on the counter. “I only had a sip.”
“How have you been?”
“Good. I really needed the space.”
I walk closer to her. I’ve missed having her around. “I’m glad you’re back.”
“Me, too.”
“Listen, about what I said... I was angry and being stupid and took it out on you. You're my family, and instead of protecting you and listening to you, I’ve been pushing you away.”
Bianca forces a smile and nods.
“It’s fine, Luca. I was a total pain in the ass to them and I regret it now. They wouldn’t have had to send me overseas if I didn’t have... my troubles.”
I hate that she feels this way because of what I fucking said.
“I want to help out in the family business. I owe it to them.”
“It’s dirty and dangerous, Bianca.”
“Please, Luca, let me help. I’ll do my best in any way I can. I promise to stay out of trouble.”
She looks different now with her new hair color. It’s dyed red. Her makeup is mild yet absolutely stunning with Mother’s eyes.
“Fine.” I drop my keys on the counter as I grab myself a glass. She grabs the bottle of red wine she had opened and pours me a glass before she pours herself some.
“Have you heard?”
I take a sip, welcoming the sweet taste on my tongue.
“The Carusos. Mateo is getting married to Gianna.”
A hard gulp struggles to pass down my throat as I clench my jaws tightly.
Bianca notices the change in expression and her eyes stare back at me with pity hidden behind them. “He has Sophie.”
I drop the glass to the counter angrily. Not my child. “How do you fucking know all of this?”
