“Stay alive, Pietro. I’ll be needing you when this is over.” I walk out of the room in search of Gianna.

The first door I kick open is empty. I walk hastily further down, stopping as I hear whimpers coming from the last room.

“Mateo!” I grunt, as I kick it open.

“You’re finally here.”

Gianna’s eyes quiver as she stares at me. Her shirt is ripped open and Mateo has a knife up her throat.

Fuck.

His eyes are full of anger.

“Let her go.” I take a step closer to them, pointing the gun in his direction. He has a part of his head hiding behind Gianna’s.

Gianna gasps as he presses the knife into her skin.

“Don’t you fucking move.”

“Let her go!”

“I’m not fucking doing that. I’m not letting you have her.”

I’m looking for an opportunity to catch him off guard and take a shot at him, but he has Gianna too close.

“Why do you have to have everything? The city, the woman I want,” he adds. He has his lips close to the shell of her ear and takes a bit of her ear in his mouth.

Gianna grunts, trying to pull away but he stops her.

“Let her go, Mateo; it’s me you want.”

“You?” he laughs. “What the fuck do I want with you? If those fuckheads were competent enough, you would have been fucking dead right now, but no one seems to know how to do any goddamn thing right around here,” he yells.

I groan, feeling more pain in my arm.

“See Luca, if I can’t have her, none of us can.”

“Don’t you fucking−” I groan again, holding my arm.

“Luca!” Gianna yells.

Mateo laughs as he stares at me. “Oh, someone’s hurt.”

“I will kill you, Mateo.”

“Let’s see about that,” he grunts.

Gianna locks eyes with me as her chest heaves.

Mateo is pulling her back slowly. “If you do not want to see Gianna dead, step out of this room.”

I ignore his words and keep my gun pointed at him.

“Fucking step out now or I slit her throat.”

Gianna groans out loud when he presses the knife further into her neck.

I shoot at them, missing my shot and the bullet hitting the wall beside them. It frightens Mateo enough to release his grip on Gianna. She swiftly elbows him hard enough in the stomach to free herself completely.
