Liriya gasped dramatically, her eyes gleaming with amusement. “I thought you married me because I was some angel, some miracle to you. Or, were you flattering me then?”
“Andthisis why I love you.” Luke sighed in pure contentment, his eyes now smiling. He tugged her back to him. “You are my angel in person, my miraculous answer, my mermaid on heels, my little mermaid, my beating heart, my soulmate, my whole life, my world, my queen…” He shook his head, eyes softening. “I could go on and on like that and dig up every existing word to describe you, but it would never be enough. Because, my love, words would never be enough to describe you, how perfectly perfect you are for me, and how much I love you.”
Liriya’s tears dissolved with the sea. “I am the luckiest woman in the world.”
“Believe me,” Luke said, cradling her face delicately. “Iam the luckiest—luckiest man in the world.”
“I believe we are both lucky then.” Liriya chuckled and pecked a kiss on his lips. “And we have just gotten even luckier because…”
“Because?” Luke pressed gently, his eyebrows rising.
“Because we are going to have a baby,” Liriya blurted out in one breath and bit her lip.
Luke froze and stared at her in astonishment, not uttering a single word for an immeasurable period of time.
Liriya frowned slightly. “You are not excited?”
“O-of course, I am!” Luke sputtered suddenly, blinking. “I-I just—I can’t—Oh Liriya…” He pulled her into a hug and kissed her hair. “We are going to have a baby. We are going to be parents…”
“Yes, we are.” Liriya snuggled to him and closed her eyes. “Oh, yes, we are!”
Luke pulled back to look at her and cupped her face again, before kissing her fiercely.
Liriya swayed her tail side-to-side as pleasure pulsed through her veins, making her squirm in delight, and kissed him back with equal passion. When they pulled away, Luke grinned and spun them around.
“It all started from here, didn’t it?” he murmured in her ear.
“Yes, and I never would have thought that the mysterious human I saw then will become my husband in the future,” Liriya murmured back with tears of joy. “But look where my urge to uncover the mystery behind your underwater ability led me—led us? Here we are, married four months and going to be parents.”
She stared into his eyes and was awestruck by the way destiny had brought them together.
“The Creator does work in mysterious ways, doesn’t He? I thank Him for sending Faelina to crash your birthday ball that day and chase you to my sea.”
“Oh, I do, too.” Liriya smiled in love and gratitude. “And our love did not just uniteus;it brought peace among Merfolk, Sirens, and Humans. Back then, I would not have said this, but, the Creator knew what He was doing.”
Indeed, the continent had changed after Lectoria and Garbia became allies with Merfolk and Sirens. The revelation of underwater beings to the humans was met with both awe and resistance. However, Lectorian people embraced Liriya as warmly as they had Luke’s mother, Queen Atlana—whom they were astonished to find out had also been a mermaid.
“I had never felt so alive in my entire life until my eyes met yours on my coronation day, my Liriya,” Luke whispered, his voice so tender, “My beautiful, little mermaid.”
Liriya’s heart brimmed with affection for him.
She recalled that day.
At the time, she had felt like a mermaid out of her element, straddling two worlds. However, this man now holding her like a precious gem, had transformed her into a true human at heart.
Their love, as boundless and deep as the ocean itself, had defied boundaries and surmounted obstacles. The recollection of their incredible journey together, filled with challenges and love, overwhelmed Liriya with warmth that radiated from the core of her being.
Their foreheads touched, sealing the promise of their love, and Liriya whispered back, “Me, too.”
