Blake tries to reach for my face, but I pull back and meet his gaze. “Is it true?”
Blake just stares at me for a moment, surprised by my reaction.
“You’re leaving?”
Then I see it.
The recognition.
Theguilt.
“Blondie…”
“Is. It. True?”
CHAPTER FORTY
BLAKE
“Is. It. True?”
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
I run my fingers through my hair as I watch tears glisten in Savannah’s eyes. Different emotions play on her face—sadness, disbelief, and betrayal are reflected at me as she fights for composure.
I hate her mother for putting her through it.
But not as much as I hate myself for keeping this from her.
The woman I love more than anything.
The mother of my child.
I should have known something like this would happen.
Savannah’s mother couldn’t get what she wanted, so she decided to cause havoc before she left.
And I let her.
“Savannah, baby, it’s not…”
Savannah’s lip wobbles as she shakes her head. “I can’t believe this.”
One tear slips down her cheek, and it breaks something in me.
This was my fucking fault.
She turns on the balls of her feet and starts to walk away as fast as she can.
“Blondie!” I run after her. “Just wait, dammit. Let me exp?—”
In her hurry to get away from me, she almost trips. My heart stops for a second, time slowing down, and I go into a sprint, my arms wrapping around her before she can fall.
“Fucking hell, Savannah! Talk to me.”
“Let go of me.”
She fights my hold, trying to slip away from me, but I’m not loosening my grip on her.
