A howl rent the air over the din of guests beginning to freak the fuck out.

“You filthy human bitch,” he hissed, but it was too late for discretion. “You think you suffered before? You’ll learn the meaning of true pain when I’m through with you. And there won’t be any coming back.”

“F-f—uck—y-you!” I rasped out, my vision darker with each passing second.

“And I won’t let your wolf follow you. I’ll let his new queen fuck him blind every night on top of your graves.”

“My King, please…” Crussian was at his side, frantically looking at the onlookers. “Shall I escort the queen to her chambers so this can be discussed in private?”

His tone carried more than the words spoken aloud, and Asmodeus must have picked up on it because his grip loosened enough for me to drag in a battered inhale.

“Thank him for your reprieve, wife. But know it won’t last the night. Perhaps I’ll let you watch Sameera with your wolf before you die. It’ll be the last thing you ever see.” His wrathful whisper wrapped around my heart and squeezed hard enough to stop it.

I was powerless to defend myself or Lucifer, and this sick fuck was going to enjoy every moment of what he planned to do with us. Impotent rage left me with only one option.

I spat in his face.

The gasps were deafening.

Crussian risked his life by grabbing the king by his bicep and pulling him down from the base of the column. He produced a handkerchief for the king and motioned to someone I couldn’t see.

Hands worked at the chains and had me free in seconds. One of the unknown guards had freed me, yanking me down and forcing me through the crowd.

“Hold her until I’ve handled my guests. Then I’ll put an end to this once and for all.” Asmodeus’s tone was clipped, and I swore I heard a hint of nerves.

Good.

I looked around for Lucifer, but I didn’t see him anywhere. Sameera must have taken him from the room.

My one regret was the last thing he’d expressed to me was his fear. I wished his love was what I’d be taking with me.

Head high despite my naked, vulnerable state, I let the guards lead me to my end.

Lucifer

Tension thrummed through me. She’d spat in his face, and now there would be Hell to pay.

Asmodeus glared at her with murder in his eyes. There would be no more chances for Lilith. She’d used up the last of her seemingly infinite lives in this incarnation.

I lunged for her, desperate to stop the inevitable, but Sameera’s leash sent crackling pain through my nerve endings.

I stopped dead in my tracks, my muscles no longer obeying my commands. My body seemed to be somewhere else entirely, no longer connected to my brain.

Asmodeus raised a hand, and one of his guards latched onto it. I knew from the tension in his body that he was ready to hit Lilith hard enough to tear her entire fucking head off—but Crussian interrupted.

I sent up a silent prayer as Sameera dragged me away.

The electric torment in my nerves was like lightning flaying me from the inside. My paws dragged over the smooth marble floor, claws scratching long white lines on the polished surface.

After feeding on my blood for days, she had the strength of ten demons contained in her wiry arms.

With the leash from Hell around my neck, the chains fighting against my every move, her strength was impossible to resist.

The last glimpse I had of Lilith before Sameera pulled me from the room was of her head held up as she was marched away, the guards gripping her arms so tightly her flesh had turned white.

I snarled, and the sound was immediately choked off. Invisible chains dug into my throat, driving the air back down into my lungs.
