Which meant wolf teeth.

All of which were currently embedded in Lucifer’s throat.

Unable to watch his inevitable demise, I fled to my room.

I couldn’t do this.

No way was I about to wait for Asmodeus to decide that I belonged front and center for his “festivities.” Was that the payment expected of me for daring to speak to a guest?

If things went my way, I’d never find out.

I reached my quarters in moments, unsure if anyone was on my heels. Honestly, it wouldn’t matter if I had a pursuer or not.

They wouldn’t follow where I was going.

Without missing a step, I crossed the room and heaved myself over the balcony.

Chapter6

Lucifer

Odragir’s sharp teeth snapped at my throat, catching skin and drawing blood in a freshet, and I couldn’t help but wonder if Lilith was watching.

If so, was she impressed… or appalled?

I grunted, letting my nails lengthen into razor-sharp claws, and dug them into Odragir’s ribs, forcing his weight off me.

The heat of his blood covered my fingers like warm gloves, then spread further down my arms as I dug into him, slicing through flesh and muscle like butter.

A pained groan left him, fueling my anger.

He wanted to challenge my right?

Fine.

He would pay for it in blood before I put him back in his place.

I jerked my knee up, slamming it into his gut and driving him away. Odragir was panting, crouched as he stared at me with glittering green eyes.

I knew mirrored hellfire flames were flickering in my own, though mine were red-orange like the rest of our pack. My jaw ached as my wolf’s teeth pushed forward.

The urge to gut him right then and there was almost overpowering, but now that Lilith was here… was I willing to continue to be the monster I’d become without her?

She’d gone pale as a ghost when I’d torn that mortal fool’s head from his shoulders…

I circled Odragir, debating whether to put him down him quick or draw it out for my own enjoyment, when I saw a servant run up to whisper in Asmodeus’s ear.

The servant’s voice was inaudible, but the king’s rang out loudly enough for everyone to hear.

“Of course she ran. Let my foolish wife find out the hard way what happens if she flees.” He let out a laugh that was like fingernails on glass. “What better way for her to readapt to her home.”

I gritted my teeth, blinding rage sweeping through me.

Maybe I should’ve been more explicit when explaining why that was a terrible idea for her run.

“Excited to see her die again, Morningstar? I miss when it was the monthly entertainment.” Odragir flexed his claws, licking blood off his lips. With his face distended into a wolf’s snout, his words came out harsh and garbled.

His knees bent, the only sign of what he was about to do.
