The question ripped a snarl from my throat, and her lips flattened.

“We shouldn’t do this,” I rasped, regretting that I let the wolf’s driving need to claim her blind me to the facts of our situation.

Lilith’s scowl was the prelude to a cataclysmic thunderstorm. “And why not?” she asked, her tone dangerously reasonable. “You were completely on board the whole time.”

I stared at her, seeing my Lily from the past superimposed over her, the horror in her face as she held up her glowing strands in her fingers with no way to hide them…

The words were stuck in my throat. I couldn’t tell her that the last time we’d done this, Asmodeus had stripped her naked in front of the court, and had flayed the flesh from her body.

That he’d chained me to the floor, forcing me to watch while her blood sprayed across my face.

Every scream, each twitch of her body before her heart finally stopped beating… it was emblazoned on my soul, a festering scar that had never healed.

I could never witness it again. Never allow it to happen again.

Even if it meant denying everything I wanted.

“I…” A growl of frustration rose in me. “I need to protect you, Lily.”

She sat upright, shoving me off her legs. Her brown eyes, soft as a doe’s, were now narrowed in anger. “What do you want from me? I’m so tired of this hot and cold shit! Half the time you chase me down, and the other half you push me away!”

I could only shake my head, still hard and aching, still torn—but unwilling to risk her life. Or losing her again. “If you remembered everything, you’d feel the same.”

“Is this about Asmodeus?” She stared at me incredulously. “I don’t give a damn what he says. No matter what he claims, I’m not his wife! I never would have married someone like him, and I want nothing to do with that psychopath.”

A bitter laugh rolled out of me. “It is about Asmodeus, but not in the way you think. He holds your life in his hands, Lily. Until I can get you out of here, I won’t risk it.”

She turned away from me, wrapping her arms around her middle, closing herself off from me.

The knowledge that we could still share pleasure without her hair giving away what we’d done should have comforted me, but it didn’t.

How long would we be able to restrict ourselves to hands and tongues when I’d never ached so badly in my life? When she didn’t understand the consequences and spurred me to take her at every turn?

I took a breath to dissipate my frustration, knowing it’d be a long fucking night with a cold shower in my future, but Lily’s life was all that mattered to me.

I wanted to prove I was the wolf—thedemon—she deserved.

But when I licked my lips and tasted her again, my staunch decision faltered.

We’d already gone so far tonight. And I don’t want to leave her wet and furious with me again. If I just sate her with another orgasm…

“If you’re going to pout, you might as well do it while I feast on your pussy,” I growled, positioning her exactly as I wanted her on the bed.

Lilith’s eyes popped wide open, but her first words of protest vanished when I buried my mouth between her legs.

I licked and sucked until I felt her shudder under me again, her fingers tangled tightly in my hair.

She only released me to jam her knuckles into her mouth, muffling her screams when she came for me again.

The tightness of her around my fingers had me ready to explode, but something at the very threshold of my senses clamored for attention before I could focus on round three.

Distant, familiar footsteps down the hall—and Lily was spread-eagled, her face flushed and hair tangled.

I wasted no time.

“Asmodeus is coming,” I rapped out, pulling her upright.

“Don’t talk to me about other—oh,fuck.” The sexy afterglow disappeared, replaced with a mixture of terror and rage, when my words broke through her haze of pleasure. Her head whipped left and right, hair flying, and her eyes finally landed on her massive wardrobe in the corner. “In there! Hurry!”
