Page 88 of War of Her Heart

Violet had eighty years of fire that was bottled up inside of her all coming out at once. If I didn’t keep it contained, it would burn my realm, and everyone in it.

Nothing mattered to me as much as she did, but I knew if word got out about what she was, a war would come that I wasn’t prepared for. Not when I was fighting a war within my own realm right now.

I kept the force field up and watched as the fire hit the dome around us and came back towards us. The energy pushing out the flames had created a cyclone of fire that tore through every object and piece of furniture in my room.

If it wasn’t for the shield of protection that I kept on myself, I would be a pile of ashes like everything else in my room.

I could feel my power draining exponentially fast as I fought to keep the force field. Her fire was so strong that it was taking everything I had to keep the flames from breaking through.

I had been so careful about using my power since I started losing it, but I didn’t care now. All that mattered was protecting her. And protecting her secret.

I knew that if she didn’t stop soon, she would break through the force field. She was strong, and I was growing weaker by the second.

“Violet,” I said as I panted to catch my breath.

I had to get through to her.

“Violet, I need you to stop.”

My shield was starting to wear away, and I felt the burn on my cheek as her flames tore though.

I was losing it.

“Please, love.”

Chapter 36

Violet

I woke up on the floor in a room I’d never seen before. Well, a shell of a room. Everything was charred, in a pile of ashes, or covered in black soot.

The last thing I remembered was not taking my medicine. I sat up and realized that I didn’t have any clothes on, but even with the soot surrounding me, I didn’t have a speck of dirt on me.

What happened here? To me?

“Good morning, love.”

That voice. A voice I had grown so fond of hearing, but I had never heard it like this before.

That voice set every nerve in my body on fire, and I felt something inside of me pulling. Like it was tugging me towards that voice. Begging me to turn around.

I slowly turned to see him sitting against a wall, resting his arms on his knees.

Everything in the world faded away when my eyes met his. Since the time I first saw him, I felt something deep down, but it was like there had been a cloak covering that feeling, and I would only get a glimpse of it every now and then.

But the cloak was gone now.

The feelings I felt were so clear.

My mate.Sebastian was my mate.

He must have noticed the look on my face because his eyes softened as he said, “It’s about time.”

I started to crawl towards him, not taking my eyes away from his. He seemed to look a little afraid of what I’d do next. Which made sense considering how I had tried to push him away all this time.

I stopped when I was only inches away from him and reached my hand out to place it on his face. He leaned into my hand and looked relieved by my touch.
