“We’re good brother. I get where you’re coming from. Just do me a favor. When she comes back, don’t interfere. I need her to listen.”
“Okay.”
I turn around, walk back into the clubhouse, and go straight to the hall where the bunnies’ rooms are. Opening Candy’s door, I see Doc beside her bed nursing her wounds. Cara really did a number on her. Candy’s right eye is completely closed, and the left isn’t too far behind it. Her lips are completely swollen and there are bruises and cuts all over her face.
“You try anything like that again and your ass is out of my club. Hell, if I lose Cara, your ass is out!” I snarl. I don’t bother to let her reply. I slam the door and head back to the common room. Taking a seat at the bar, I order Mouse to get me a shot of Jack and to keep them coming.
“You’ll get her back, Viper,” Axel says, taking the seat beside me.
“If I don’t, I’m going Nomad.”
Axel looks at me with wide eyes. Going Nomad means I would still be a Sinful Warrior, but I wouldn’t belong to a specific chapter. I would basically disappear and live my life on the road, coming and going as I please. I never thought I would ever go Nomad, but I couldn’t sit in this club without her. It has too many memories of her already.
“You would just leave us?” he asks in shock.
“I would be no good to any of you if she walks out of my life.” I grab the bottle of Jack and head to my room. Locking my door, I get into bed. Cara’s scent surrounds me instantly. Looking at her side of the bed, I see my shirt that she likes to sleep in. Grabbing it, I bring it to my nose and inhale.
Tears fill my eyes as the fear of losing her becomes overwhelming. Grabbing the Jack, I start to chug. I need to numb this pain I’m feeling. I’m afraid of what my life will look like if I lose her. She has become everything to me. I just got her, but I already had our entire life planned out in my head.
I’ve thought of her carrying my baby, putting my patch on her back and my ring on her finger. Twenty years from now, I could see her still in my life with a house full of kids. I wanted that with her and only her. When I start feeling the effects of the alcohol, I put the bottle down. I don’t want to be too disoriented when she comes back.
I’ll never forgive myself if I’m drunk and passed out when she comes back. Grabbing my phone, I send a text to the prospects, letting them know I want to be alerted when she returns. Lying my phone on the bedside table I let sleep take me.
* * *
Two days. She’s been gone for two days and not a single word from her. Not to me. Not to her siblings. No one has heard from her. When I asked Sara to track her, she told me it was pointless to try. She said if Cara didn’t want to be found, we wouldn’t even get close.
Sara tried anyway to ease my mind. She was right. Cara blocked her GPS on her phone and Sara couldn’t find her truck. It’s like she disappeared right off the face of the earth. I’m sitting at the bar wallowing in my misery when my dad sits beside me. He’s the only one who will approach me right now. I’ve snapped at everyone in the two days she’s been gone. I just want my woman back.
“She’ll come back, son.”
“Yeah, but will she come back tome?”
He sighs and doesn’t answer. He knows he can’t answer that. Nobody knows what her head space will be like when she comes back. My phone rings and my heart stops. I quickly grab it, hoping it’s Cara. I sigh in frustration when I see it’s River.
“What?” I snap.
“Cara just pulled through the gates.”
I hang up and run out the front door. Cara hops down out of her truck as I make it outside. When she looks up, her gaze connects with mine instantly. She sighs, shakes her head and walks my way. When she tries to walk around me, I grab her arm, stopping her.
“Let. Me. Go.”
Not this time. She won’t get away this time. Not until she hears me out. If I have to take on Duke and Daisy, so be it. I look around and see them nowhere in sight. Looking down at my hellcat, I can see she’s pissed. Leaning down, I drive my shoulder into her stomach and throw her over my shoulder. Cara’s fists come down on my back repeatedly.
“Put me down!” she screams, trying to wiggle herself free.
I bring my palm down on her ass, giving it a sharp slap. “Behave.”
I make my way to my room. Everyone looks but no one gets involved. I can see her siblings want to interfere but they promised to give me a chance to explain myself before getting involved. Cara’s language has become very colorful as she calls me every name in the book.
Once we’re in my room, I lock the door, lay Cara on my bed, and grab her wrists, pinning them beside her head.
“Baby. Please, listen to me. Nothing happened with her, and it never would. Candy was only in my office for five seconds before you walked in.”
“Yea, right. Do I look stupid to you?” she growls at me.
Not bothering to answer, I move her wrists above her head and grab on to them with one hand. With my free hand, I reach into my pocket, take out my phone and pull up the camera feed from my office. Nobody knows about this camera. Pops had it when he was Prez, and when he gave me the gavel, he told me about it.
