I nod because I forgot how to speak. My eyes droop and I know it won’t be long before sleep claims me. Jace knows it too. He chuckles and heads for the bathroom, coming back with a washcloth. After he cleans the both of us up, he gets in the bed and pulls me to him. Before sleep overtakes me, I hear Jace’s voice.
“I love you, Mrs. Huxley.”
“I love you too, Mr. Huxley.”

VIPER
TWO MONTHS LATER
It’s a few days after New Year’s. Cara isn’t due for another three weeks. The doctor told us normally multiples are born earlier than this. My woman is miserable. Her stomach looks painfully large. I do everything I can to keep her relaxed—foot rubs, back rubs, mind-blowing orgasms. You name it, I’ve done it. I think the only thing that will truly make her happy is getting the babies out of her. Cara’s parents moved down here. They asked if they could build a home in the back of the compound. Crystal wants to be close to her grandbabies. We had to vote on it in Church, but no one was against them moving here.
Sofia is here because it’s winter break. She leaves in four days. River seems to be bummed about it. I truly don’t know what’s going on with those two, but they talk every day when she’s away at college. Bobby earned his patch last month. His road name is Rambo. Kevin has fit right into the mix. He and Tech are always together. All they do is talk about technology. Boring, I know.
The diner is set to open next week. Cara and Sara named it Sweet Home Diner. The buzz has been insane. The girls’ promotion for the diner has the town talking nonstop. During interviews, Cara cussed out a few women. Granted, they were flirting with me right in front of her. I don’t understand desperate women like that.
Right now, everyone is in the common room. It’s rare to see Sara in the clubhouse nowadays. She only comes here if it’s absolutely necessary. Bear has been trying to get her to talk to him all day, but she avoids him like the plague. I feel bad for him. I can see the pain in his eyes from not being around her every day. Cara tapping my shoulder brings me out of my thoughts.
“What’s up, Hellcat?”
“Can you help me up? I need to use the bathroom.”
I help her stand. As soon as she’s on her feet, water gushes to the floor. Holy. Shit. It’s happening.
“That’s nasty.” Dice cringes and gags a little.
“Remind me to kick Dice’s ass after I have the babies.” Cara groans and doubles over. “Fuck! That hurts!”
“It’s showtime, people. Let’s get a move on. I’m about to be a goddaddy!” Thor shouts.
I swear you would think these were his babies the way he’s been nonstop talking about them. He bought the kids so much shit. He even has stuff in his room for when he has them. He’s taking his role seriously. Everybody kicks into gear and starts helping Cara get to the truck. We bought a new SUV for when the babies get here.
“I’m so glad I get to see the babies before I go back to school!” Sofia clasps from the back seat.
“I call dibs on a baby soon as we get in the room.” I know Crystal would probably throw a fit if she didn’t get a baby first. She’s been so impatient waiting for the babies to arrive.
I laugh and grab Cara’s hand. Wrong move. “How are you doing, baby?”
I hear Paul groan from behind me. “Never ask that question,” he mutters.
“How the hell do you think I’m doing? Three spawns are trying to claw their way out of my vagina!” Cara has never looked at me like this. If she had one of her knives, I’m pretty sure she would cut me right now.
I look at Paul through the rearview mirror and he just shakes his head. I turn my attention back to Cara. “I’m sorry, baby.” I hear Paul groan again. What did I do now?
“You’re sorry? Sorry? Sorry doesn’t help this shit hurt any less!”
I’m afraid to talk now. I feel like no matter what I say, she’s going to rip my head off. Luckily, I see the hospital and quickly pull in. Getting out of the truck, I see all my brothers pulling in. No one is on their bike right now. It’s too cold. Capone jumps out of the passenger seat of Gunner’s truck and comes up to me.
“Get your woman in there. I’ll park the SUV.”
I give him a nod and help Cara out. Once she’s settled in her bed, the profanity flows from her mouth like a river. She actually threatened a nurse with promises of a bullet to her head if she didn’t take her eyes off me. We haven’t seen her since.
“Where is the damn epidural?! I can’t take this much longer,” she groans.
I go to kiss her forehead and she pinches my lips together. “If your lips come anywhere near me, I will remove them from your body.”
My dad laughs and I turn around and glare at him. This shit isn’t funny. I don’t know how to deal with my woman not wanting me to touch her.
