“I had no choice, my uncle wanted you to have this.”
“JD…” she warns. “You shouldn’t be getting involved in this.”
“What choice do I have, they are my family whether I like it or not. What I don’t like is being set to wed some douche who likes to put his hands on me. So my ticket away from him was to deliver that envelope to you. My uncle seems to think it will help you understand.”
“So you met with your uncle?” I nod. I don’t tell her Levi also did, she would lose her mind.
“He's a hard man to find.”
“That's because you are going about it the wrong way, you don’t find him, he finds you.”
“This case...I’ve been working on it for years. I can’t walk away now and whatever’s in here won’t change my mind.” She says, tapping on the envelope in front of her.
“He knows that. Please just open it, I want my freedom.”
“Fine,” she sighs and opens the envelope and pictures fall out. She goes white and I see a car and a man, my uncle, helping a small boy from the car. The progression of photos showing him trying to help and then another shows the car blowing up.
“He saved Levi's life.” She whispers as tears gather in the corner of her eyes.
The last photo is of the boy - Levi - again with words written in red.I don’t do anything for nothing.
“He won’t hurt him.”
“You can’t promise that, he’s a monster. I know he is related to you but he isn’t someone I want Levi to be associated with.”
“What are you saying?” I ask, even though it comes out in a whisper.
“I need you to stay away from him and the others.”
Anger, fury and rage starts coursing through my bones. How dare she ask that of me. I didn’t ask for this.
“How dare you!” I shout, standing and shaking my head. “Don’t you put this on me! You’re the one that’s the police officer, you’re the one trying to take my uncle down, whether he deserves it or not. This is not on me. Maybe, just maybe me being in his life will save it."
“You don’t know that.” she yells back tears falling down her face, her mascara was already sweating off and now its running down her face.
"Maybe not, but you’ve known who I was the entire time and somehow I don't think Levi would understand why you kept that from him."
"You need to stay away from him." She warns not denying that she knew the entire time.
"I won’t stay away.”
“The restraining orders will make you.”
“That will all disappear very soon.”
We stand in a stare off. I thought Lissa was on my side, she seemed like she had wanted to help me. After a few seconds I turn and leave, making my way outside and back to my new car. Levi pulls up and parks on the grass next to Lissa’s car and looks surprised when he sees me.
“Hey, what’s going on?” He asks, as he jogs over to me. I take in the glorious sight that is Levi Parker, and have to swallow the hard lump that has formed in my throat. His basketball shorts hang low on his hip and his jersey is tucked into his pants. He notices me checking him out and smiles.
I jump into his arms and he catches me even though I gave him no warning. My lips connect with his, he walks us backwards until my back is pressed against my new car. Levi pulls away from the kiss first.
“What was that for?” he asks and I slide myself down his body, my hands resting on his abs.
“I miss you.”
“I miss you too. But you didn’t drive three hours to tell me you miss me.”
“I had to drop something off to Lissa. I made a deal with my uncle and it’s no secret she has interest in him. He wanted me to deliver a package in exchange for getting me out of my marriage to Sebastian.”
