Lennox.I tried to shout out to her, I needed to warn her, but nothing came out.

“Lennox!” I tried again.

Crack.

“Lennox—”

Crack.

Everything went dark.

LENNOX

Lennox!

Luka’s voice rang through my head again. The first time I thought it was in my head, a dream but?—

“Lennox!”

“What in Astria’s tits is he doing,” I grumbled as I made my way towards his door.

I knocked on his door sharply—my annoyance rising with every moment passing without him answering.

“Luka!” I rapped on the door again. Still nothing.

“Luka?” I tried the handle—the door was unlocked so I made my way inside. “Luka, you have a lot of explaining to do?—”

The words died on my tongue as I took in the room. There were books and broken glasses strewed across the floor like someone had swiped them across the dresser. I scanned the room—where was he? The room was dark—not a lantern was lit.

With the snap of my fingers, my flames bathed the room in a soft glow as it filled the lanterns.

The balcony door had been left open—allowing a coolnight breeze to filter in. “Luka?’

I took a step towards the balcony, halting as I stepped in something warm and sticky splattered on the floor.

My chest constricted at the sight of the red liquid under my bare foot.Blood. My eyes darted around the room. There was blood everywhere in the entryway.

It lay in a pool and was splattered across the wooden floor.

“Luka!” Panic was rising inside me now, taking control over every rational thought. I ran through the room, my feet tracking bloody footprints as I searched for him, only to come up empty-handed.

I scanned the room again, looking for anything, any clue as to what happened. My gaze snagged on steel gleaming in the light, Luka’s sword was lying in the entryway, next to the pool of blood.

Someone was here. Something happened and they took Luka.

That’s why he had called for me.

My chest heaved—my breaths coming in short pants.

Panic consumed me. I took off running—Luka’s sword in my hand.

I would find him.

“Lennox!”

In my rush, I ran smack dab into Declan. His large hands gripped my arms. “Lennox.” His golden eyes scanned over me. “Are you okay?”
