“I want to see you here every week for healing. Our first priority is to heal the damage done to your organs. Once all your organs are in working order, we will work on your bones, which will have to be broken in the spots they have healed poorly so I can fuse the bones correctly, I am sorry dear but I fear this is going to be the worst one. Next, we will work on healing your scars and vocal cords. We are looking at a very long year of recovery, but you will recover. If neither of you disagree to having students work on you, then we could speed up the time, I would allow some of my more advanced healing students to do some of the minor work, none of the bone healing, or organ repair, but they could start on healing some of your scars while I am doing the more fine healing.”

“I don’t have a problem with it, but I am one of seven matches for Farlen. She and I will talk about it and let you know on our next visit what she wants.”

“Alright dear, the first and most important organ I am going to heal is your heart. I am not sure how it is beating with all the scar tissue on it. Lay back on the bed. I am going to have to touch you near your heart to direct my magic to it to begin healing it.”

I lay back on the bed as Healer Daniel tells me to. This bed isn’t as nice as the one I woke up in. Why can’t every bed be that nice, and have a nice pillow? Healer Daniels’ hands heat up and the white glow is back. He places his hands on my chest above my boob and stands there like that for a while. I can feel the warmth from his hands flowing into my body. It isn’t painful, but it feels strange. Connor walks over to the bed and stands there, watching. When Healer Daniel steps back from me, his hands no longer glowing, Connor reaches over and grabs my hand and gives it a hand hug.

“Thank you so much Healer Daniel for what you have done and will do for Farlen. I don’t want to add more to you, but her eyes are very sensitive to light. Is there anything you can do for her?”

“I am afraid not. The best thing for her is going to be to slowly let her eyes adjust to the light. It could take months until she can be in direct sunlight without the sunglasses she is wearing. However, I would recommend something with more protection around the sides, and maybe a little darker of a tint, and gradually get lighter and lighter until she is comfortable being without them. Something I will add to her file, so she doesn’t get any trouble from her instructors while wearing sunglasses in class.”

“That is more than enough. Thank you again. What time next week would you like us back?”

“Why don’t we wait until after we know her class schedule? Just pop by sometime next week when she is free and we can do some healing on her lungs next.”

Connor reaches over with his other hand, grabs Healer Daniels’ other hand, and moves it up and down in a weird motion.

“We will be here. Thank you again.”

Connor lightly tugs on the hand he has a hold of and pulls me out of the small hospital. I don’t know how to describe what I am feeling. It feels like my heart is full, like nothing could go wrong now.

“There is a small mall not far from here, maybe about a ten-minute walk. Would you like to walk there, or drive there?”

“W-w-alk?”

He smiles at me, gives my hand another hug with his hand, and leads us down the strange gray path.

Farlen

The feeling I had when we left Healer Daniel is slowly starting to disappear. People look at me funny here at the mall. Some people point at me and a few girls look like they fell asleep standing up. One place we went to get my clothes told Connor that I wasn’t welcome there. No matter where we go in this place, I feel like there is always someone watching me. We finally found a store where they didn’t stop me from getting clothes.

When we walked in the door, there was a small lady with purple hair standing behind a table. She made a noise like she was having trouble getting air into her. Quickly, she comes over to us.

“Hi! I am Holly. What are you guys looking for today?”

I look at Connor because he knows what I need and I don’t.

“We need a full wardrobe for Farlen here. I mean everything, hopefully, a week’s worth to start. I am hoping we will be getting her more clothes as she puts on some weight.”

The lady nods to Connor. “Okay, that I can do. What is your size so I can show you where they are?”

“Let’s just say that she doesn’t know her size because of circumstances beyond her control. Will that be an issue?”

“Nope, no problem. Let’s start off with a size two and see how it fits her, and we can work from there.”

I have tried on so many clothes that I really wish they would just start on fire and leave me alone. I never had to wear them before. Why do I have to do it now? I think the worst part waswhen Holly brought me what she called a bra. It looked like something HE used to torture me with. It felt pretty close to it once I had it on, too. Connor told me that it was something that all women wore. I don’t understand why they would torture themselves with it.

After we got a lot of clothes and some shoes for me, Connor hands Holly a rectangle when she tells him the total. I don’t understand what any of it means, and I am glad that Connor is here with me to help me. I don’t think I could have done this without him, though I still don’t want to wear the bra. It takes Connor a minute once he puts the rectangle back in his pocket to gather all the things that we got.

“I’m not able to hold your hand with all this stuff, so please stay close. Now, since you did such an amazing job, let’s go get you that food I promised.”

I’m not really hungry, but I don’t know if he’ll be mad at me if I tell him that. So I just nod my head at him. I stay right behind him as he walks, trying to stay behind him so not so many people will see me. It works a bit. Once we pass people and they see me, the pointing starts again. I don’t see them pointing at anyone else here. Just me. I don’t understand why, and it makes me feel sad. Maybe this wasn’t a good idea.

I don’t know how long I was absorbed in my thoughts, but it must have been a while, because Connor is standing in front of me, holding out a small cup.

“I figured we’d try out a small one first to see how you like it. Don’t want to get you a big one and you do not like it.”
