“Ooohhh, how’d it go?”

“It was awesome. The lady took me seriously, and I had previously chatted with a few other staff who have issues with him, and they all agreed it was time to finally take a stand. So I was able to give her seven other witnesses.”

“Seven more!?” I practically squeal. “That’s incredible, Katie!”

“The HR lady assured me she will interview everyone as quickly as possible, so hopefully this will be resolved by week’s end. He’s not going to know what hit him.”

“Do you think he’ll try and fight it?”

“Oh, of course. Do snakes ever just roll over and die?”

“I mean, there’s the hognose, which plays dead…”

“Yeah, it plays dead. But it’s not. We gotta be careful. At least he doesn’t have our personal information.”

“Well, he did get my phone number somehow, so I’m a little concerned he might find out more. And he figured out how to contact my parents, so it wouldn’t surprise me if hedidmanage to get my home address. Thankfully we have security cameras. Last thing I want is him showing up at my parents’ house on some sort of rage-fueled vendetta kick. That would be uncool.”

“So uncool,” Katie agrees. “Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I had the interview, and that it went well. Score for the good guys!”

“Hell yeah.”

“Wait, hold up. My brain is just registering that he contacted your parents? Why?”

“Oh, he thought it would be in my best interest if he told my parents that Alex is really a janitor, not a doctor, like they thought.”

“Oh nooooooo!”

“I know. We were always going to tell them, and having it come out like this definitely caused a rift. Dude is trying to ruin my life at work and at home.”

“Did you talk to your family?”

“Yeah, I did. Things are still a little tense, but I think most of the air has been cleared. Time will tell for sure.”

“Sheesh. Just when we can’t think this dude can sink any lower, he does.”

“Yeah, no kidding. I’m glad you talked to them, too. Every single testimony helps.”

“They told me I could go home and relax if I wanted to.”

“Did you?”

“Um, duh! Your favorite bitch had to do her Halloween costume shopping!”

“Oh yeah, that’s this weekend, isn’t it?”

“Girl, where have you been. Yes! What are you going to be?”

“I have no idea, honestly.”

“Well, I’m going to be a sexy vampire.”

“Really, not a sexy doctor?”

“Please, bitch, that’s my outfit every other day of the year,” Katie laughs. “Halloween is about being different!”

“Ha, fair enough,” I agree, laughing with her.

“Oh, you should be a sexy vampire, too! We could be twins! Are you going to the resident party?”
