He stutters, “She’s gone.”
Jet snaps. “What do you mean, gone - where?”
I roar, “Fetch Tanya.”
Then we hear, “You’ll be fetching no one. I’m here already.”
I glance at her irritably. “Where’s the girl?”
She shrugs. “Made a break for it when no one was looking. She pretended to drink too much and went outside for somefresh air. Tricked me into leaving her and when I checked on her she’d gone.”
I roar, “You stupid bitch.”and shout, “Find the girl.”
The men scramble and Jet says angrily. “She’s lying.”
Tanya looks angry. “Fuck you. I don’t care who or what you are, I’m telling the truth. Perhaps she had second thoughts about the company she’s keeping. Look around you guys, you’re all hardly Prince Charming. She’s no fool and probably thought better of a life in hell and made a break for it.”
Jet yells, “If something happened to her, I’m coming back for you. I don’t buy a word you just told me.”
He hisses angrily, “If she’s not found, I’m holding you and your club personally responsible.”
Shit, this is all I need.
I turn to Razor and bark, “Razor, lock this joint down. Tanya, you had better not be lying to me because you’ll suffer the consequences if you are.”
I watch the blood drain from her face before she frowns and says angrily, “Fuck you, Atom.”
Then she spins on her heels and stalks away.
Jet watches her go with a frustrated, ‘fuck’ and now it’s obvious there is no way in hell we ain’t getting involved in this shit.
Along with all myDark Angels, we search everywhere. The studio, her apartment, and every bar and diner in the vicinity. The one place we haven’t checked is The Starlight Club, and as we sit outside in a ring of steel, I consider what’s inside.
“If we go in there mob-handed, we start a war. Are you sure she’s worth that?”
“She’s worth everything.”
“Then what’s your plan?”
“I go in alone. If she’s there, I’ll find her.”
“You’ll never make it out alive. You should think this through.”
He glares. “Fuck thinking. You can sit on your bike and think about what a fucking pussy you’ve turned out to be. I’m getting my girl back and to hell with the consequences. Now get the fuck out of here before you blow everything.”
I merely shrug and signal to my men to leave and as we move away from the club, I wonder if one man can really bring down an empire.
CHAPTER 31
CLARA
As usual, Michael doesn’t come home and I pity his poor unfortunate mistress. There have been many over the course of our marriage. The latest one is fairly new, which is how I like them because he spends more time there than terrorizing me.
It allows me thinking time and until the biker came to town, I always concluded there was nowhere to run.
The girls are happy and they enjoy everything that money can buy and Michael, despite everything, is a fairly good father to them, which is why I stay.
Some may ask why I don’t run home to my parents. They would help me, surely. Wrong. They are more terrified of Michael than I am, and that’s saying something.
