“Favorite color?” I ask her.

“Kelly green. Yours?”

“I don’t know. Black, I guess. Now, tell me. What the heck is Kelly green?”

I can picture her rolling her eyes at me. She giggles. “Like green green. Not dark, not lime.”

“Like grass?”

“Kind of.”

“Why is it your favorite?”

“Because it always reminds me of a fresh start. It’s a happy color.”

I wince. “So you probably hate black.”

“Nothing to hate about a classic.”

Chapter 9

Olivia

“If you could only eatone food for the rest of your life, what would it be?”

I smile at his question. Our phone calls have been what gets me through every day. But they also make me miss him. It’s been two weeks since I left Liberty. “Seafood.”

“Wow, you answered that one quickly. Seafood? Really? Any particular kind?”

“Hmm. Probably shellfish, I guess. I love crab and shrimp and muscles. All of it. What about you?”

“Probably chicken wings.”

“Such a guy,” I tease and wish I could see the dimple I know would be making an appearance right now because when he speaks, I can hear the smile in his voice.

“I know. But I love them. And that one buffalo chicken dip you can eat with tortilla chips? Oh hell, I’m drooling thinking about it.”

“You’re such a dork.”

“That I am. At least I don’t order enough breakfast for an army.”

“Hey! That proved to be a good thing, yeah?”

“Yeah, I guess it was,” he murmurs.

“Wanna know a secret?”

“Of course.”

“I just lied. Pizza’s my favorite.”

Chapter 10

“You know what I love?”

“What do you love, baby?”
