“Lime. In my water. In my iced tea. I love it. When I’m out to eat and I order iced tea with a lime wedge, the server always looks at me like I’ve lost my mind.”
“Not at a Mexican restaurant, they wouldn’t.”
“True.”
“What else do you love?” I ask her, wanting to know every one of her favorites.
“Fountain pop and that little ice that’s super crunchy and soft at the same time. If I could have a soda machine in my house and one of those ice machines… oh man. That’d be like a dream come true.”
“Like Sonic ice?”
“Yes! Exactly. Ahh, so good. Right? I could crunch on that stuff all night long.”
Chapter 11
Olivia
“I’ve never brokena bone before. No stitches, either.”
I sit up in my chair. “No way! For real?”
“Nope. Dad said I was always really accident prone, too, so he assumed I would have been in the ER a few times but never. I’m indestructible.”
“Ha! Right.”
“What about you?”
“I broke my arm when I was eight. I fell off my bike when I was chasing Owen.”
“So it’s Owen’s fault.”
“Obviously. It took me a year to get the courage to get back on again.”
Chapter 12
Ethan
“Didyou have a job in high school?”
“Kind of. I babysat in the summers for a neighbor family with two kids. During the school year I worked at a grocery store.”
“Why is that kind of working? It sounds to me like you did a lot of working.”
“Because I didn’t get paid for the babysitting.”
“What do you mean?”
“They couldn’t afford to pay me because they got stuck with some really hefty medical bills so I helped them out.”
“That’s… wow. Hearing that just gave me a boner.” Not even lying. She’s so sweet. So giving. It would be impossible not to fall for her.
“You’re such a dork.”
“You’ve said that a time or two.”
“Yeah, well, truth hurts.”
“You gave up your summers to babysit for free?”
