“Is it a boy?”

“Kind of,” I admit. “It’s so much more than just a boy, though.”

“It always is,” she agrees, nodding.

I take a deep breath and dive in. Spilling every single thing to her about my parents giving up on their marriage and shocking me, and then not being able to see who Jared or Aaron were, trusting them both only to have them not be who I thought they were. And finally, about how Ethan and I have spent the last three months getting to know each other, leaving no topic off limits.

“Whew. Okay, you have a lot more on your mind than I was expecting. But I have an answer for you.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yup. Talk to your parents. The shit that Jared punk and Aaron ass pulled is not who Ethan seems to be and deep in your heart you know that, right?”

I give myself a few seconds before I answer her. “You’re right. I know he’s different. He’d never try to control me that way or cheat on me. But, then again, I never expected that from Aaron or Jared, either.”

“I don’t think that had anything to do with you not being able to judge their character. I think they were just really deceptive scumbags.”

“They were definitely scumbags.”

“And you like Ethan.”

“Duh.”

“No, I mean, youlikehim, like him. I can tell. So, your major fear actually has nothing to do with the dillweeds. You need assurance that ten, fifteen, twenty years down the line, you and Ethan won’t get tired of each other. Or, you know, whoever you end up with. But my vote is Ethan, just so you know.”

I fight a gasp. She’s right. “Holy shit.”

“I know. I took a few psych classes before I realized I wanted to make people pretty for the rest of my life instead.”

I glance in the wall of mirrors to my right. “Well, it turns out, you’re pretty good at both.”

“Right?” She’s grinning and I know she’s teasing me but she needs to know that it’s the truth.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Now, when he proposes and you say yes, promise me you’ll come back here to get beautified for your wedding.”

My face heats but I can’t ignore the way my pulse begins to race at the idea.

“You’ve got yourself a deal.”

We share a smile and I think I just made myself a new friend, and maybe a bit of a psychic.

Chapter 36

Ethan

“Yo!”Rex’s voice snaps me back to the present. Literally snaps his fingers in front of my face.

I scowl at him. “What the hell, man?”

“You’ve been staring at absolutely nothing like a love sick little girl for the past ten minutes. What the hell is wrong with you?”

“Nothing,” I mumble.

“Bummed that your week-long fuck fest is almost up?”

“Watch it,” I warn.
