Page 97 of Gone for You

“I implied it.”

I groan, “I’m such a dick.”

“Well, I did say that you don’t deserve her.”

I rest my hands on the back of a chair, dropping my head and breathing deeply. I need something stronger than deep breaths to get through this conversation.

“Whiskey.”

“No. You don’t need whiskey. You need…”

“Liv.”

“Yes, that, too, but you screwed that up and until you get your head on straight, you can’t go back to her begging for forgiveness. So instead, you really need to get away. This is why you need to go to Owen’s.” I open my mouth to object and he lifts a hand. “Get over it. He’s Liv’s brother. Always has been. He’s also your friend and his resort is full of magic peace-bringing. If you can’t find it there, you won’t find it anywhere.”

I feel around my neck and my head. “What are you doing?”

“Checking for the probe you obviously stuck in me so you could read my mind.”

He replies with a shameless grin. “I read people.”

“I know,” I grumble. “It’s annoying as hell, too.”

That stupid grin widens. “I get that a lot.”

It’s also not a horrible idea. I obviously need to get out of town, away from the memories that I can’t seem to escape. Figure out how to grovel and get her back. Because I will get her back.

My phone chimes in my pocket. Rex looks at the ceiling and starts whistling. Becausethat’snot suspicious or anything.

“What’d you do?”

“Saved the world.”

I roll my eyes and mumble how dramatic he is.

Owen:You flying in or driving up?

“Am I flying or driving?”

“Where?”

“You’re ridiculous.”

That damn smile. “I know. Your flight leaves first thing in the morning.”

“How did you… you know what? I don’t even want to know how you managed to reserve me a plane ticket. Fine.”

Me:I’ve just been told I’m flying in tomorrow morning. I’ll send you flight details as soon as I have them.

Owen:That’d be good.

“Can I ask you something?”

Without looking up from my phone, I reply, “No.”

“What’s up with the Tequila Sunrise hate?” Of course he didn’t listen.

I slide my phone into my pocket and raise my eyes. “It’s a stupid drink.”
