“You, too.”

He looks at me funny because what I said doesn’t really make sense, but yet it does. I’m happy for him. Not so long ago, both of us would have sworn we’d die bachelors. Then our futures walked into The Flying Goat and we were knocked on our asses.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Chloe

“How are you feeling?”

Liv glares at me and grits out, “Dandy! Just freaking dandy.”

I look at Rex and stretch my lips out in an eek face and he smothers a laugh.

“Okay then. Well, I’ll leave you two to it.”

“No!” Ethan tries grabbing Rex by the arm but he’s too quick.

“Unless you plan on being in the room with us when Chloe’s giving birth, I suggest you let us go. This is your time. You got this.”

“No we do not!” Liv shouts. “There’s nothing about this that we’ve got.”

The nurse comes in and says, “Let’s check you, shall we? See how you’re coming along?”

Liv nods, shifting uncomfortably in her bed. She looks like hell. Beautiful as usual. Well… that’s actually not true. Her face is splotchy, hair matted down from sweat, there’s black under her eyes where her mascara has run.

She reaches a hand out to me and I shoot wide eyes to Ethan who’s already by her side. “You gonna tell her no?” he challenges and I shake my head.

Rex moves quickly so he’s standing beside me, out of the way of the nurse and risk of any chance of seeing a part of Liv he never wants to see.

I let Olivia grip my hand as the nurse checks her to see how far along she is.

“Good news.”

“Ready?” Liv pants, hopefully.

“Yup. The doctor is here so I’ll go grab her and we’ll get started.”

Ethan looks like he’s about to throw up and jump for joy at the same time. “Holy shit. It’s time.”

“I’m scared,” Liv admits.

“No need to be scared, Liv.”

“Oh really? Shall we see if you’re scared about the idea of something even as small as a peanut shooting out your penis?”

“Let’s not get mean.”

Rex and I laugh and I squeeze Liv’s hand once. “We’ll leave you to it.”

“You’re leaving?”

“Yeah. We’re just going to be in the family waiting room with Paul. This time is for you two. You’re going to do great, Liv.”

“Thanks, Chloe.”

We make our way to the waiting area where Paul is pacing back and forth. “She okay? Baby here yet?” he asks urgently as soon as he sees us.

“No baby yet but she’s ready to start pushing. Should be soon.”
