“I love you, too.”
He grins, presses a hard kiss to my lips, and commands. “Alright, sit.”
“I am not peeing in front of you, good sir!”
“Good sir?”
“Don’t make fun of me. I’m a little nervous and there’s really no way I’ll be able to pee in front of you without having stage fright.”
“Is that really all there is? Or is it that you don’t think I can handle it? If that test says you’re pregnant then I’m going to have to get used to you doing a lot more than just peeing in front of me.”
“But if I’m not, then this would be all for nothing!”
“Fine. I’ll turn around.”
“Out with Malcom,” I counter.
“Turned away like an animal,” he tsks.
He leaves me to my privacy and I do my business, reaching between my legs to pee on the stick after reading the directions to make sure I do it correctly. Not that there are many different ways to pee on a stick, but I don’t want to take any chances.
Once I’m finished, I set the test on the counter on top of the wrapper, wash my hands, and open the door.
Malcom’s face greets me, Rex holding him up. He’s wearing a red plaid bow on his head and looks pissed.
“Hi there,” I coo and he meows angrily then jumps out of Rex’s arms, running away.
“Why does he hate me?” My hands drop and I pout. “Rex is the one who put the bow on you! I’m the one who feeds you, you little asshole!” I shout after him.
“I don’t think he gives a shit what you think of him.”
“Oh, ya think?”
Rex wraps his arms around my back. “How do you feel?”
“I don’t know,” I admit.
“Want me to look for you?”
“You’d do that?”
“I kind of have a little bit of an interest in the outcome.”
“True. True. Okay. Maybe, together?”
“Sure.”
“Count of three?”
“Just look at the damn thing already!” he laughs. “Baby, I love you but I need to know. The anticipation is killing me.” I smile up at him, hearing him say he loves me will never get old. I lift on my toes and kiss him. We get lost in it, just like we do so often when we start kissing.
“Three two one go!” he says the words quickly but I don’t obey. “Come on, gorgeous. I can’t wait any longer. I want to know, too. This can be my Christmas present!”
“I’m. Nervous!” I stomp a foot and he lifts me up, moves me away from the doorway and marches inside the bathroom. “Rex! No. Together, okay?”
“I wasn’t going to look. Just wanted to get you in here. Worked, didn’t it?” He points to where I’m standing next to him, pregnancy test in my hand.
“You’re sneaky.”
