“I heard what you said, I also didn’t ask you to come in and I’ll thank you to not be such an asshole in my home. Now, what are you doing here? I’m in the middle of something.”

“Fucking Stone?” he says angrily.

And I’m done. I march to the door and don’t hesitate to wrap an arm around Leah’s shoulder, tucking her in close.

“Figures. So you’re just screwing random guys now? Huh?”

“First of all, Stone isn’t random. We’ve known each other for years and second of all, who I spend time with is no business of yours. We’re divorced, unless you forgot.”

He glowers at me and I grin, uncaring that he’s pissed off right now.

“You were just waiting in the wings, huh?”

“You are so delusional.” Leah laughs. “What are you really doing here? To throw a fit because two and a half years after we divorced, I started seeing someone?”

“I don’t think it’s very appropriate for you to be sleeping with someone else under our kids’ roof.”

She scoffs. “Okay, so youaredelusional. Good to know.”

I love that Leah isn’t bothered a single bit by Brett’s presence or the way he’s acting. If anything, she finds it funny.

“I’m not delusional, Leah. How do you think it looks? You’re running around with other men!”

“Not men, man. One man. We’ve been friends for years and recently decided that there’s a lot more between us than just friendship. The kids approve. They discussed it with him last night. Brock invited him over for breakfast with us this morning. And, since I know you don’t care, Cash and Corbin Rae came home to see us last night.”

“They care. They’re just trying to keep their mom happy so you don’t lose your shit on them and act like a whackjob.”

“Watch it,” I growl, pushing Leah a little behind me.

She’s not having it, though. She pushes back in front of me and gets right in his face. “Listen here, you dicktwat. You left me. You left our family. I can’t tell you in this moment how glad I am that you did, but you have no say in who I spend time with. The kids do, and they made it clear that they’re happy with my choice. If they weren’t, I would have ended it and Stone knows that and would have respected it because… newsflash, asshole, he’s an actual man who gives a damn about other people. Now, unless you have something to discuss that involves our children, I am going to ask you to leave. Stone and I were having a nice afternoon until you showed up.”

“She’ll bore you to tears,” he says to me, thinking he’s getting one last parting shot.

“Ha! At least I don’t have to fake orgasms with him.”

She shoves him out the still open door and slams the door in his face.

She turns to me and we both burst out laughing.

I hug her, both of us still shaking from our laughter and kiss her forehead.

“Dicktwat?” I ask, hardly being able to keep a straight face when she called him it.

She shrugs. “Seemed appropriate. I’m sorry he showed up here.”

“I’m not. I liked seeing you put him in his place.”

“It was fun.”

“I’ll bet.”

I take her hand in mine and start toward her bedroom. “I figure we have another hour before the kids get back home and I have plans for you.”

“Yay!” she cheers, making me chuckle again.

We spend every second of the next hour in each other’s arms, naked.

When the kids get back home, Leah sits them down and explains part of the situation that happened with Brett. She does this without me in the room – I actually take a drive so I can give them total privacy – because she wants their opinion about us being together as a couple. They all agree that Brett is delusional, without saying the words.
