I don’t give her time to argue and tap on my phone.

The sprinklers burst to life, drenching us.

Her date sputters in outrage, grabbing the napkin to shield himself, but it’s too late. His expensive suit is already soaked through, and in all seriousness, what would a simple napkin help?

Mary glares at me, water dripping down her face and plastering her dress to her body. But there’s a challenge in her eyes, and the corner of her mouth quirks up.

I tap on my phone again, and the sprinklers stop.

Her date grabs her arm. “We’re leaving.”

Daring her to choose him over me, I hold out the towel.

“You should go.” She grabs it. “I’ll handle things from here.”

“You’re staying with him?” he asks.

“Yes.” Her eyes never leave mine. “I am.”

Good girl.

With an indignant huff, he storms off, leaving us alone.

“What the hell was that?” she asks.

“You wanted to play games,” I say. “It was my turn.”

“You can’t just do that. What about all the people?”

“I don’t care about the other people.”

“The whole restaurant is ruined.”

“They’ll be fine.”

“What?”

“Look around.” I chuckle as she scans the other tables and realizes we’re the only ones drenched.

I’m not that irresponsible.

A waiter rushes to us with a towel in hand. “Miss, I’m so sorry. I don’t know how this happened. There must be some malfunction. I’ll call the technician right away.”

She takes the second one, glaring at me.

“I’ll bring another one for you, Sir.”

“No need. We’ll go upstairs to our room.”

The waiter bows and walks away.

“You’re unbelievable.”

“Yes, my methods might be unconventional, but you provoked it.”

“I’m not going anywhere with you.”

“Yes, you are. Because the only place you’re going tonight is with me.” I grab her arm, half-dragging her through the restaurant, ignoring the stares of curious bystanders. The anticipation building inside me is intoxicating, blotting out all reason and restraint.
