We both know it.
"I didn't think you'd actually show up here."
"If I say I'm going to do something, I do it."
"Not true."
"What do you mean?"
"You said this was over between us, yet here you are." He narrows those golden eyes at me, but I can't figure out if it's in confusion or annoyance.
"How did you expect me to react after our conversation and the things you said you wanted to do?"
"I was hoping you'd accept it and go to sleep."
"I know we're still getting to know each other, Tessa, but do I seem like the type of guy who'd respond that way?"
I shake my head, and his hungry eyes stroke every inch of my skin, leaving a trail of blistering heat in their wake. "You feel it, don't you? This fire that burns between us, it doesn't go away."His eyes darken as he waits for me to continue. "Why isn't it going away?"
"Do you want it to go away?"
"Don't you?"
"Yes and no," he answers, turning his head away from me for the first time since I sat down beside him. "I know I shouldn't be here. I should be…"
"Should be, what?"
"Anywhere but here," he exclaims, quickly returning his attention to me. The conflict inside him is evident, but it's a battle that neither of us can resolve. "We both know I shouldn't have come here, Tessa." I nod at him in agreement because he's right. What we're doing is reckless. "But you're all I can think about." He exhales as he looks down at me, our gazes locked, and the way he fucks me with his eyes has me ready to climb into his lap and take everything I want from him. "I can't do this here. I can't have this conversation like this."
"I need you to explain this to me, Zane."
"I'll explain anything you want me to, but not here."
"So take me home." I can feel the intensity of his thoughts mirroring my own.
"Put your seatbelt on."
I do as he asks, knowing that once we're in the privacy of his home, there will be no stopping us, and right now, neither of us seems to care about the consequences.
Chapter 18
Tessa
The journey back to Zane's is excruciating. My body burns with an unrelenting desire, aching for release, and I'm not sure if it's the alcohol or his proximity, but I feel like I'm losing my mind. Every second we spend in this car, the tension between us grows, and I already know there's no ending to this night other than me winding up in his bed.
I'm craving his attention, and despite being unable to look away from him while he drives, he hasn't glanced at me once. Everything about him screams sex and masculinity, and even the way he drives makes me want to drop my hand into my pants.
His firm grip on the steering wheel and the way his lower body relaxes in his sweatpants have me imagining how his hands would feel on my body, branding me with his fingertips and marking me as his.
"I'm about two seconds away from stopping this car, Tessa."
"Huh?" I snap out of my thoughts and stare at his face, which is still focused on the road ahead.
"You need to stop eye-fucking me because it's taking everything I have not to pull over." It's a threat I believe he'll carry out, so I keep my eyes facing forward for the rest of the journey, knowing that we need to have a conversation.
The longer we drive, the more secluded we become, surrounded by trees and woodland, and the thought crosses my mind that a psychopath has seduced me and he's leading me to my death. However, the irrational thought disappears almost as quickly as it enters my head. Within a minute, he steers the car into a long, private driveway that leads straight to a house hidden away from neighbors.
The size surprises me. It's bigger than I was expecting, and even though the house is enveloped in darkness, I can imagine that the inside will perfectly reflect his personality.
