We head over to the group of people, and for a split second, I contemplate removing my shoe and jamming my eye with the heel just so I can get the hell out of here.
"Hi, baby." Harry walks toward us, his attention locked on Jen.
"Hey, Harry." I react with a sickly sweet smile, and as he looks me over, he responds in the most Harry-like way imaginable.
"Do you want some love, baby girl?" Jen whacks him on the arm, and he clutches it as if she just threw a brick at him.
"Eyes on your girlfriend."
Harry grabs her, drawing her closer to him, while I feel the warmth of an arm encircling my waist.
"You smell nice." In moments like these, I get why people believe Erik has feelings for me. But I know him and our relationship well enough to understand that his love for me doesn’t go beyond friendship.
Besides, he's a Cancer, so he's always looking for affection.
"Thanks, so do you."
"You good?"
"Not really." I reach up and press my lips against his ear. "Why is Ashlee here?"
"Fucking Josh asked her, and the chick suffers from serious FOMO, so now we're stuck with her for the night." I take a step back, and he smiles at me. "But I'm happy to spend the night with your happy little self."
"I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic." I raise an eyebrow at him, and a bright smile spreads across his face.
"Oh, completely. I hate your company."
"Asshole."
My attention is quickly drawn to Tobias, who peers at me over the rim of his glass. I keep walking closer to the table full of fucktards, and as our eyes connect, he scans my body and openly eye-fucks me across the space between us.
He makes me feel wanted, but my mind and heart are elsewhere, and even though I'm not into Tobias in that way, this guy manages to put me on edge, as he does everyone else.
"Oh, look, late as usual… But it’s better than not showing up at all, which is, like, usually the case with you two."
Bitch.
"Considering the company, not showing up would probably be the better option," I reply, and she gives me a smirk just as Josh starts speaking, shifting our attention away from each other.
"You're always late. Every time we plan to hook up, I'm left holding my dick, waiting for you to show." Her mouth drops wide open as everyone laughs at her expense—something she isn't used to and clearly hates.
"I'm definitely not drunk enough yet to hear that shit," Tobias says as he stands and moves closer to me. "Let me get you a drink, Blondie." He smiles at me and shamelessly looks over my entire body once again as he nears. "Nice dress."
"Thank you, and I'll have a glass of red wine."
"No problem. Now go sit down and enjoy the party, pretty girl." I find myself sitting next to Jen—as if I'd ever sit anywhere else—and we all listen while Ashlee talks about herself. Joshthen jumps in and asks about the one guy I'm trying not to think about right now.
"Has anything more happened between you and Calloway?"Don't react.
"No, not since he told me off."
Jen and I lock eyes, a silent understanding passing between us as Tobias sets my glass of wine on the table in front of me and sits in an empty chair.
"Your teacher told you off? What did you do? Stick a pin in his chair? Try to make a move?" Tobias asks. "Piss on your homework?"
"He totally accused me of crossing a line, but I could tell he'd rehearsed that little speech beforehand. He'd obviously been told to say it."
"What did you say to him?" Josh asks with a high-pitched laugh that makes me want to gag him—and not in a good way.
