?Chapter Ten
?Axel
Dinner is suspiciouslyquiet as we eat our dinner. I half expected the questions to start immediately. Cara and Maci sit at the end, giggling and talking to each other. My mom is at the head of the table and my fathers take the five seats down my mother’s left. Garrett is next to Mom, then Lincoln, Aaron, Ethan, and finally Damien. Damien is sitting across from me and Cordelia is to my right, with Kenan on her right and the girls on his. The table is long and everyone is kind of just making small talk and eating. The only ones not talking are myself, Cordelia, and Damien. It’s hard to just call them all dad sometimes, especially when there are five of them and you never know which one is being talked about. So a lot of the time, we call them by their names.
“Cordelia.” My mother says over everyone, shutting all the small talk down. My mother is a powerful woman and when she speaks, everyone shuts the fuck up.
“Mrs. Mazitti.” Cordelia responds respectfully.
“Do you prefer a gun or knife?”
She looks over at me and I nod, signalling her to answer. “A knife for close combat. They’re easier to slip into someone and when you feel the pulse of someone's heart through the knife, there’s really nothing that could compare.” Cordelia responds almost perfectly. Fuck, that was hot.
“Agreed, can you use guns?” Mom asks, following up quickly.
“Yes, but they’re messy.”
“Explain.” Garrett adds.
“When you shoot someone, the impact causes too much splatter, and upon exit all the evidence you could have avoided expels from the body.”
“Fucking truth there.” Aaron laughs.
This is going to be a very unique dinner. I’ve never seen one go like this. Usually it's, what's your family life like? Did your daddy touch you in your no-no places?
“What did you do with the bodies?” Ethan asks, eating a piece of potato off his fork.
“Well, if I tell you that, I’d have to kill you.” Cordelia shrugs, cutting into her chicken.
Cara gasps and the entire table goes silent. No one has ever threatened us in our own home at our dinner table.
“I like her.” Damien says with a laugh.
“How’s your hand to hand?” Maci asks.
“Not the best, I usually trick men into coming home with me. They’re usually pretty compliant. Well, until I tie them down and pull out a knife.” Cordelia just keeps going, surprising the fuck out of me. I didn’t expect her to just talk about all of it so openly. I half expected that I’d have to threaten her to talk. I did tell her to answer the questions, maybe my little deer actually understands who she belongs to.
“Where’d all the bruises and cuts come from?” Cara asks.
“Axel.” She shoves a piece of chicken in her mouth. “This is the juiciest chicken I’ve ever eaten.” She makes a moaning sound as she enjoys her food. I guess I really haven’t fed her since I took her, which means she’s probably starving.
“Eat as much as you want.” Damien tells her as he passes the plate of chicken over.
“Thanks.” She says with a half full mouth, taking the plate from him. When she takes two more pieces of breasts, I feel like I fucked up.
“Axel?” My mother pulls my attention. “Did she pass your game?”
“Yes.” I respond, watching to see what my mother plans on doing next. She has her hands steepled in front of her face.
“The twatwaffle had his fun, that’s for sure.” Cordelia pops off, not even being asked a question.
“She’s impressive.” Kenan states.
“You don’t get an opiniondoll face.” Cordelia looks over at Kenan, pointing her knife at him. And the way she said doll face, is like she’s reminding him about their encounter.
“I really like her.” Maci claps. “Can we keep her, please?”
