The moment Bryce and the doctor left, Ryan drew Camille into his embrace. “How are you feeling? I’ve been so worried about you.”
Camille closed her eyes and rested her head against his chest. She loved being held in Ryan’s arms. It gave her a sense of comfort which she’d never felt with anyone else.
She wondered how long this peace and calm would last. Her decision was already made, but what if Ryan didn’t want to be any part of that future?
“Why were you back so early from the tv shoot? I thought you’d be gone until late,” she asked. It was a delaying tactic, but she couldn’t help herself.
“I quit the show. Can you believe that they had Kaylee trying to kiss me the second she opened the door? She hasn’t seen me in four years. The whole set up was stupid, and the viewers won’t buy it.”
“Won’t they sue?”
Ryan shook his head. “I thought they might, but while you were with Doctor Porter, Bryce got a call from Chloe Fisher’s manager, Nancy L Rusen. She has apparently come up with a cunning plan. The legal teams have spoken, and they think they have enough to be able to pressure Derick Stad and his people to let me go.”
He bent and kissed her gently on the lips. “When I left the set, I told Derick that I wasn’t coming back. I needed to come home and be with you.”
“Ryan,” she breathed.
“You are the only woman I want kissing me.”
Ryan might be saying sweet words of love right now, but would that change when he found out her news? She took a deep breath—anything to steady her nerves. Here went nothing. And everything.
“Ryan I ...”
He put a finger to her lips, and whispered. “Shhh. I know.”
Her brows furrowed in confusion and Ryan gently laughed. “While Bryce was on the phone to Chloe’s manager, I googled your symptoms. Tired. Nausea, especially in the morning. And let’s not forget that when I touch your breasts you squirm because they are so sensitive.”
Trust him to be so observant.
“Did Doctor Porter do a pregnancy test?”
“Yes.”
“And?”
“Yes.”
CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT
“Yes.”
Ryan’s world stopped turning for a moment. Camille was pregnant.
I’m going to be a father.
“Wow. Um.” A laugh escaped him. “A baby. That’s fantastic.”
A matter of minutes ago this was a possibility, but now it was real. He and Camille were having a baby.
And suddenly his entire existence made sense.
Ryan brushed his hand over Camille’s cheek. Her skin was no longer pale and sweaty. “Every time I look at you, everything in this world just clicks. I love you, Camille.”
“You love me?” whispered Camille.
He was surprised at the wonder in her voice. How could she not have thought he felt that way about her?
“And I’m not just saying it now because of the baby. I’ve been in love with you for some time, but I…” Ryan slowly shook his head. “I was afraid to say it. To be honest, I didn’t know if you wanted to hear those words.”
